I have an "88 XJ6 which seems to be possessed. after applying the brake, either the front or the rear wheel cylinders will lock up. A mechanic working on the last episode released the pressure by disconnecting the brakeline, that seemed to remedy it for the time being. but !!!

Hello: You nare going to have to replace/rebuild front calipers, replace Both rubber hoses that go fron the frame to the calipers. You may have to replace the rubber hoses in the rear and the rear wheel cylinders. Contaminated brake fluid creates a expensive and long repair.
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
Remove or disconnect the following:
Clip, 2 caliper pins, the anti-rattle spring then remove the 2 brake pads and the 4 anti-squeal shims
CAUTION Only replace brake pads on 1 side of the vehicle at a time. Failure to use this procedure could cause the caliper pistons on the opposite side of the vehicle to pop out requiring the reconditioning or replacement of the brake caliper.
Remove a small amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder.
Install a used brake pad into the caliper and compress the caliper pistons.
Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims.
Install or connect the following:
Anti-squeal shims to the new brake pads NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
2 brake pads
Anti-rattle spring and the 2 caliper pins
Depress the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
Check the brake fluid level and top off as needed.
It could be a proportioning valve, and there's also the chance that the portion of the master cylinder that operates the front brakes is going bad. Have you had a pressure check done on the front brake system? Also, some vehicles have a variable proportioning valve, so that when the vehicle is loaded, it allows more pressure to the rear brakes. These can sometimes stick in place, causing the fault that you describe. Hope this helps you out.
You possibly have air in your lines. When you bleed them you need to start at the rear passenger, then rear driver, then front passenger and then front driver. If you are certain you have no air in the line then you have a bad brake hose/brake line. Replace this and your problem should go away. If not then the culprit should be the distribution or master cylinder. I hope this helps.
is it the front or rear locking up? you really have to have this truck loaded (load valve under bed) before the back brakes come on and i think these are the same as my 1999 2500 where the rear is only abs, and not on the front..dumb design i know, but thats how it is...determining if its rear abs only and which axle is locking up will help pin point the problem...i put 100000 miles on my dodge since i got it in 2001 and i put 8 sets of pads on the front and just changed the rear lining and thats only because the rear wheel cylinder was leaking causing the rear brakes to lock up..
You have a bad master cylinder my friend, all the braking force is going to the rear hence the lockup, the front brakes most likely don't do anthing, all mdern brake systems are split, so you have at least 2 wheels working, in effect the car has 2 master cylinders in one unit.
