Put new water pump on 1997 isuzu and changed the timing belt

OK several things to check, is there power to the fuel pump, check as close to pump as you can? and did you check the ignition coil?

There is no adjustment. The belt is probably off by more than one tooth as it would likely start if it was just a tooth. Either way, the belt must be on perfectly for the engine to run well. Sometimes it is difficult to align the marks at the outside of the sprocket with the mark at the back cover. If you lay a tooth pick across the cam sprocket so that it follows the tooth under the belt to the back cover, it makes it easier.

The timing marks are stamped into the head and in the cam pulley, also on the crank and the case, find them and paint them white so you can see them, the new belts have the marks on the belt, they will line up, If they don't , you got it wrong, You can do this without spinning the cams or crank and losing the marks, as long as the belt marks line up, you will be all set. Put the pin in the tensioner before removing the belt. Did you change the water pump? And I think the engine is 3.2L. Get it in there and pull the pin, It should be right on. Turn over the engine by hand a couple times to make sure it comes around on the marks. If it is wrong, it will go about 11 or 12 miles, and you will need a new engine. Hope this helps.

DRAIN COOLANT SYSTEM.REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE.REMOVE TIMING BELT AND IDLER PULLEY.UNBOLT AND REMOVE THE WATER PUMP.CLEAN ANY GASKET MATERIAL OR SEALANT RESIDUE FROM THE WATER PUMP MATING SEALING SURFACES.WHEN INSTALLING NEW WATER PUMP BESURE TO USE A SEALANT ON BOTH SIDES OF WATER PUMP GASKET TO KEEP IT FROM LEAKING COOLANT.TORQUE WATER PUMP BOLTS TO 13 FT LBS IN A TWO STEP CRISSCROSS SEQUENCE.INSTALL THE IDLER PULLEY.TIGHTEN THE MOUNTING BOLT TO 31 FT LBS.INSTALL AND TENSION THE TIMING BELT.INSTALL THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE.REFILL BLEED THE COOLANT SYSTEM.

The Isuzu is a strange animal-when you do the timing belt you set it with #1 TDC "BUT" the distributor is timed with TDC #4 I found this the hard way and finally had to buy a cd with the procedures on it. Send me an e-mail address and I will forward the associated pictures &

TIMING BELT & SPROCKETS R & I
NOTE: Some procedures may differ slightly due to engine
construction.
Removal
1) Remove all necessary air ducts. Position No. 4 piston at
TDC of compression stroke. Align timing marks. See Fig. 2. Remove fan
and fan shroud. Remove belts. If necessary, remove radiator and
splashguard.
2) Prevent engine from rotating and remove crankshaft timing
pulley retaining bolt. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers.
Remove spring from tension pulley. Loosen adjusting bolt and move
pulley toward water pump. Remove timing belt.
CAUTION: Ensure pistons are at TDC when rotating camshaft or damage
may result.
Inspection
1) Handle timing belt carefully. Avoid twisting or kinking
belt. Do not allow belt to become contaminated by water, oil, dirt or
other contaminates. Inspect belt for cracks or damage. If necessary,
replace.
2) Measure tension pulley spring length and force. Spring
length should not exceed 2.76" (70.2 mm) and spring force should not
be less than 197-347 lbs. (27-48 kg).
3) Replace tension pulley spring if not within specification.
Installation
1) Pull tensioner fully toward water pump side and
temporarily tighten retaining bolt. Ensure No. 4 cylinder is at TDC on
compression stroke by rotating crankshaft until keyway aligns with
mark on front crankshaft seal housing (12 o’clock). Rotate camshaft
until timing mark on cam gear (arrow) aligns with mark on upper
camshaft cover (notch). See Fig. 2.
NOTE: When timing marks are aligned as stated above, No. 4 piston
is at TDC on compression stroke.
2) Position timing belt over crankshaft sprocket, oil pump
sprocket, camshaft sprocket and tensioner in that order. Ensure belt
is positioned in sequence given and without slack between sprockets.
Loosen tension sprocket adjusting bolt allowing spring tension to
tighten belt. Tighten adjusting bolt temporarily.
3) Temporarily install crankshaft pulley bolt and rotate
crankshaft 2 complete revolutions in opposite direction of engine
rotation, until marks on crankshaft and front oil seal retainer are
aligned again. See Fig. 2. Loosen tensioner lock bolt, allowing
tesioner spring to fully adjust tension. Tighten tensioner lock bolt.
4) Install timing belt covers. To complete installation,
reverse removal procedures. Tighten all bolts to specification. See
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of this article.

The Only way is to Go through the Whole Procedure of Timing Belt Replacment Sorry to be the bearer of this Bad News but a tooth off is going to cause what you discribe.

The opti-spark distributor cap is below the water pump.
Often a leaking water pump will cause a short in the distributor
Due to the amount of time and labor cost to remove the water pump, and that fact that the water pump has to be removed to replace the distributor cap, it is a good idea to replace the distributor cap at the same time the water pump is replaced. The water pump is driven by a pinion shaft with an " O " ring. Be sure to replace the " O " ring too else you may shortly develop an oil leak at that point.

How do I change water pump on 1994 Rodeo 3.2 .

The Isuzu has a timing pump driven water pump, so if the timing belt is due to be replaced, both jobs are normally done at the same time along with replacing the timing belt tensioner pulley. It'a an "interference" type engine that bends the valves if the belt breaks and ruins the engine. The reason the shops want $700 is because they're doing a complete timing belt replacement to get to the water pump.
