Question about 2000 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Temprature gauge goes up and down

My girlfriend owns a 2000 Honda Accord. In the last three days the temperature has dropped (weather wise) and ever since then, when she first starts the car and it has been idling for about 5 minutes, the temperature gauge moves up and down from center to cold about 4 or 5 times, making the car tremble a bit. Could this be a temperature sensor or a gauge problem? What can I look for before I take it into the shop for diagnostics?

Sounds like your low on coolant or you have air in the cooling system
water is needed for the sensor to show a true value and if your low or have air you sensor will at times because of the thermostat opening
go up and down. hope that got it

The rpm go up an down

Change your coolant temperature sensor for the computer.(not the one for the temperature gauge). They are located one beside the other, under the distributor cap.The parts supplier will know which one you need. When you start the car cold it usually idles 1800 to 2000 rpm for a minute or so and as the resistance starts to decrease, the rpm drops.after a couple minutes the rpm goes to 1000 rpm.People that are in the habit of driving the car right away at 2000 rpm are putting a huge stress on the axles, and find that they are replacing them every 100000 km.It also wears out your brakes faster .When the sensor goes bad,it causes a fluctuating idle .

Within the past three months, I have put two thermostats in my 1991 Honda Accord, and it is still overheating. I have bled the system, and replaced the radiator cap. The temperature gauge fluctuates...

the hose to the top is hot ,the bottom is cold the radiator is plugged, have to replace it.Would suggest ,just get a new one ,don't fool around with cleaners or flushes.

1990 Honda Accord Temp Gauge goes up to the extremely hot (to the end of the hot) mark on the gauge all of a sudden and then drops back down to the Normal mark after about 15 seconds. I drove the car...

Fan coming on after shutdown is okay, and needed. Check for full coolant, and bleeding of any air in the system. Be sure that the heater is on FULL hot during filling.
Then pressure test the cooling system and fix any leaks. Your issue sure sounds like sticking thermostat or low coolant.

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

check the thermostat, the thermostat regulates water flow through your engine to cool it down sometimes they get stuck open or closed, remove it and put it through a simple test
grab a cup of cold water and a glass of hot water drop it in one then the other, you should be able to see if it opens and closes
