All interior lights (overhead, radio, dashboard) blink
When daytime running &/or headlights are on, everything starts blinking and interior light on/off switch plate gets very, very hot. sounds like a short, but where? is this something any mechanic can fix or dealer only? maybe a recall?

Re: all interior lights (overhead, radio, dashboard)...
Number one when you turn the ignition switch on make sure that the headlights are off the short is in the switch the rehostat in the switch which controls the interior lights are damaged and so the panel gets terribly hot.

Simply put it sounds like you have something draining the battery, the daytime running lights came out way before 2001. I have a 98 and there are daytime running lights on mine. When the vehicle is running there should be a green light in your cluster in the top left corner, that comes on whenever you start the truck. that signal also will shut off when you actually turn your headlights on. if there are any accessories plugged in or running live, lights, amp/subs, xm radio, car charger for a cell phone. Anything like this could be draining the battery, along with interior light left on. Check everything make sure all is either unplugged, disconnected, or turned off. That should about solve the problem... hopefully. Good Luck!
this problem is caused by a tiny micro switch that is attached to the door latch inside the doors, the stick and give this false warning, have replaced dozens of them, it is called the "door ajar" switch oddly enough :)
I don't know about your lock situation - but I had the same issue as you with the blinking/flickering lights on the console/radio/overhead console. What the problem usually is, is the headlight control switch, the one to the left of your steering wheel. There should be a dimmer switch, headlight controls, possibly foglight and auto headlight options. - I don't know if you have those.
What you need to do is either replace the switch, which is anywhere from $80.00 - $130.00 new - OR - you can attempt to fix the switch by taking the switch box out of the dash, taking the screws out, and resoldering all of the the connection joints with fresh solder. What happens is over time these joints crack and have bad connections.
To test if this is your issue, try pressing hard on the headlight switch, or dimmer switch, or knocking on it, while your console is illuminated and if it dims that's your issue.
