Question about 2001 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

Ford Windstar transmission shifting too soon

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar and had the engine replaced not too long ago, ever since then the transmission shifts way too soon. Could it have something to do with the kickdown cable and how would I adjust that, I know that in some older vehicles there is a way to do it.
Thanks David

Yes , the kick down cable is adjustable on a 2001 Windstar. The linkage is located in the throttle body.

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar van and when I accelerate, Transmission fluid floods out of the vehicle. What are possible reasons. Shifts into gears with no problems or hesitation.

I would suggest that you check the oil level in the transmission and make sure that it is not over full as this cause frothing and an overflow situation.

Why won't a 2001 ford windstar transmission go in any gear?

try topping trans fluid this normally the case on most auto's

Trans starts out fine, will upshift to 2nd while in OD position but will begin to slip at about 30-35 mph. From that point it will upshift if gear shift is placed in 2 position. Doesn't seem to go past...

well, whoever did the transmission needs to look at it again. It sounds like a solenoid problem internally in the transmission.or a plug, wiring,or vacuum leak

I have a 2001 windstar the tranny just stopped like it shifted in to nuteral and now nothing are they known for computer probs or wat ????

They and all other van type vehicles, with transaxles, have a 30 year history of problems

I would say, having owned a trans repair shop years ago, there is a 90% chance, your going to rebuilt the trans

My suggestion, sell it, and buy a rear drive transmission vehicle only,no transaxles.

Failed OBDII Diagnstic trouble codes P0761 and O1744 What does this mean?

code P0761-
Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid 3 valve
- Shift solenoid 3 valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid 3 valve circuit is open or shorted
P0761 FORD Description Shift solenoid valve 3 is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position. When is the code detected? The P0761 code is detected when the ECM has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized, valve stuck off code O1744- is not a code these are the ones I have found that come close
