Question about 1992 Lexus Sc 300

1 Answer

Rough Riding 1994 Lexus SC400

I am considering buying this car. When I test drove it, I noticed that the hood and front end were real shakey and noisy. Also, after driving it for a mile or so...their was a very noticeable hesitation or a feeling of bogging down. After that the check engine light lit up. I was told that it was not reset after Lexus replaced 2 sensors. What do you think could be wrong with it?? I am hopeing that whatever is wrong with the car won't cost a fortune to fix. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like it hasn't been babied! I would say no way, if the deal sounds good it may just be someone dumping the trouble on you. I don't like buying a troubled car unless it only has a couple minor problems I'm sure I can fix myself. You got to also figure in what they won't tell you!

Drove my Honda Passport AWD 2002 about 7 miles this morning and I noticed smoke that seemed to be coming from the front wheel on driver side. What could it be?

Wouldn't you suspect a failed wheel hub
bearing assy or brake issue ?

Start taking it apart & sniffing as you go

Have to stop using it as is

Slip,vdc,4wd lights always on

YOU MAY HAVE A LOOSE UNIVERSAL JOINT ON YOUR DRIVE SHAFT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IT WITH A LOOSE DRIVE SHAFT.... IF THE FRONT OF THE DRIVE SHAFT COMES DISCONNECTED, IT WILL DIG INTO THE PAVEMENT AND CAUSE A POLE VAULT ACTION... AND OVER TURN YOUR VEHICLE.

What other Ford models have front ends that are compatible with a 2001 Ford Explorer AWD?

Never drive that vehicle without the driveshafts installed, it WILL RUIN the transfer case. Find a real mechanic to find out how much damage you did.

Cracked piston and cracked sleeves can they make a truck to overheat?

cracked sleeves --yes-- as the combustion gas gets into the water jacket Unusual unless you have had the motor frozen. Cracked piston will be very noisy especially under power. There can be expected oil consumption with a noticeable miss in the sound of the engine. I would be doing a pressure test on the radiator to check for sleeve problem. Check the condition of the fins of the radiator and if the cores are blocked inside. If you have a viscous fan hub I would consider it a very real possibility for over heat problem as it will not drive the fan when it should.

Steering and real bad vibration in front end

That is known as "the death wobble" for very obvious reasons. You need to install steering dampeners . They look like shocks and they mount between the drag link and the frame. They will cure the problem. Don't delay putting them on your Jeep. Hope this helps.

Humming in the rear end

Could be a bearing or the ring and pinion gear. I would check the fluid level of the rear end. I would stay away from it, it could be a bit pricey to fix.

I test drove a 99 automatic 4x4 explorer xls model today which I am considering buying ,but i noticed when taking off it felt slugish not enough pick up at start .Other than that vehicle is in immaculate...

buyer beware. these have problems with the transfer cases and rear ends. if you must buy one find one with a manual set transfer case. or better yet anything but a jeep or GM product
