i have a 98 mpv fuel filter was replaced ,distributer/coil was replaced, timing belt replaced, mass air replaced. some times it runs great, but in a instent it starts reving high, and some times stalls. once it stalls it wont start. it just cranks. i tried spray ether in the intake, still wont start. if you let it go for a while it will eventuly turn over. I have reason to belive the compurter is to blame what do you think.

Well it seems your issue might be
-spark related or fuel
if you eliminated timing

the easiest way to eliminate fuel is to tap a fuel press gauge in between the inlet line or where the fuel is coming into the rail. if it checks out good with manufacture specs then your looking for a spark issue
also check the fuel filter because sometimes it might be cough, but in all you have to determine what it might be

theres only a few things that effects your starting problem
-spark
-air/feul
-compression

if your starter kicks over

Does it have an anti-theft key just below the steering col. to the rt (as you sit in driver's seat) ? if that key is not removed once in a while and cleaned, it will have a buildup and not work properly

u have to make sure nothing is draining the battery. It sounds like a drain or it may be a fault in the ignition (starter etc) if all else is working.

VSS or vehicle speed sensor aka cam sensor or crank position sensor. Test the battery and alternator. You should also check for blown fuses, bad wires and grounds on a car as old as yours. If you find it's getting spark and fuel after further testing, check the timing belt. It could have slipped or broke even if it was changed recently so either pull off the cover or at least do a compression test.
