Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Rear center seatbelt won't release

I have a 2002 VW Jetta with 95k miles. I went to use the middle seatbelt and for whatever reason the it won't budge. It is stuck in a retracted position. The vehicle has never been in an accident and all the other restraints are functioning as expected. Any insight would be helpful!

Follow the belt back to the anchor point there could be somthing stuck in it or you should be able to undo it if you remove the plastic cover and look st the way it works.joe

The re-tractor is called an Inertia Reel. There on the side, remove the cover and there is a trigger release on most. If the spring is broken, you will need to replace the reel. Check at a local junk yard for the best price.

Should a 2002 jetta tdi- automatic at 87,000 miles

That specific transmission is known for failure. Sometimes it's premature failure (in your case) and sometimes they have 150k miles, but that specific automatic transmission will always fail.
There are plenty of stories online about premature failure of the 01M VW transmission...

VW Jetta - Button to open the gas tank is broken.

Hi, if you open the boot (trunk) and pull back the interior trim on the fuel filler side, you'll notice an orange loop of plastic - pull this towards the rear of the car to manually release the flap.
Hope that helps Matt...

Rear seat down and wont go back up; locked middle belt

middle seat belt shouldn't have anything to do with it. The seat locks down for stowage in the rear cargo area. you can pull the release handle on the back of the seat to release it back into the up position.

Overheats and won't start

You could change the thermostat and the fan temperature sensor which should be on the radiator. Then top up with a mixture of antifreeze and water pertaining to your location and VW guide lines. If nothing else, this advice will ensure that the thermostat will open and close and that the assuming the radiator fan motor is working, will come on and cool down the radiator.
