Make sure the wires are tight on the back of the alternator and the belt is tight. If they are, the alternator has a bad diode in it.

alternator is not charging battery. The car is starting and running on the battery till it goes dead. Check the alternator installation , something is not installed correctly or you have the wrong type of alternator. Alternators now a days can physically fit into the vehicle, but have different electronics built in. voltage regulators, diodes, etc. You give. no year make model of vehicle so it is very difficult to help you.

My battery light comes on and goes off while im driving

The battery light is coming on due to either a defective Alternator voltage regulator Diode (built into the alternator) or to a wiring connector problem at the Alternator. When the charging system voltage drops below the battery voltage the battery warning light will come on, this is not a Battery problem as many think, it is a charging system issue as stated above, the main component of the charging system is the Alternator..

Battery warning light comes on when first started but when rev motor goes out but comes back when idling

Hi,

You need to check both of your battery and alternator. Your battery may deteriorated and need a replacement. You need to check Alternator especially on its voltage regulator like voltage output.

While driving the battery lite comes on and the car wants to stop.i give it some gas and it goes.

With the information you provided - I would say that your alternator is not providing enough voltage to charge your battery at low engine revolutions and keep your vehicle running as well. Since I am guessing that your do not have a volt meter (battery light comes on) you may want to turn on your head lights and see if when you rev up your engine their brightness increases. If they do - this may suport my theory. If so have your alternator checked at a service facility. Let me know. Thanks

97 nissan sentra with brake and battery light staying lit after changing battery. when it goes into passing gear light goes off then comes back on

These lights will come on if your alternator isn't charging fully. With a multi meter test your voltage at the battery with the engine running. The voltage should be above 14 volts. If it is below 14 you will need to replace the alternator.

Replaced battery, light is still on

The battery light is usually an indication that the battery is not charging. This could mean your alternator is bad but sure to check the alternator belt tension carefully. If it is loose, it can make the alternator appear bad.

98 expedition battery light comes on with increase of rpm

There may be no loss of voltage, but is there a surge of voltage?

As for the battery itself when tested, it should read 12-12.5Volts across the
leads when the car is off. When the car is running, the battery should be reading 13-14Volts across the leads, anything lower means the alternator is not charging your battery, anything higher means the alternator is over charging and damaging your battery.

Another cause for the battery light could be your ECU has detected an error

Replaced alternator and battery still showing low/varying voltage

check the battery ground cable and make sure that you have a good engine ground.to do this you need to use a voltmeter and check for voltage drop between the battery terminal and engine it should not be more 0.4 volts .if that is o.k. the alternator internal voltage regulator is not good and replce the alternator again.also make sure the drive belt is tight.
