How do I get the door panel off a 1997 Sonata, while the door is shut? The drivers door has jammed and the central locking is working, I can see it moving down the window glass and can move the rod against...

Member since:May 12, 2008Total points:662 (Level 2)Remove all the plastic covers that you see. There ought to be in by the door handle, and two under the armrest. You may need to remove the plastic cover by the interior door handle by pushing forward on the plastic unit. Check to ensure that all the screws are removed(philips), and tug gently on the door panel. There might be some or one that you may have missed. Do not force it off. There are plastic "anchors" that hold the door panel to the door itself. Some might break, but can be replaced with others from your local parts store

The rear window automatic open and close system has stopped working on my jaguar stype, reg t55 jms

On both rear windows, or just one? If its just one then probably the regulator mechanism in the door has broken (there are some rather fragile plastic parts that can snap with age). The mechanism is easily replaced by removing the door trim (take out two screws found under the rubber mat in the door handle well, and pry off the whole door panel with a wide blade screwdriver or cats paw (start at top edge nearest to rear - 4-6 snap fittings should pop off reasonably easily). Unscrew old mechainsm and replace the whole thing.. Parts usually available on Ebay for $50 to $100, make sure you get the correct orientation, front and rear, and left and right, are all different parts - Lincon LS parts also fit perfectly).

If both windows not working and stopped at the same time... sounds electrical.. start checking fuses?

Can not remove side mirrors to be replaced

If the old ones wont come off, break them off. then look for hidden screws or clips for inside the door. But usually, you have to take the interior door panel off , and remove some trim to get to the bolts that hold them on. I have never taken one of those doors apart, but I know you will need an assorted Torx bit/driver set, some deep well sockets (around 1/4 inch. Usually the 1/4 inch drivers work fine), and a large screw driver/ pry bar. There are small plastic holders called "christmas trees" that hold the door panel firmly to the door so it wont rattle around. Just pry those little holders away from the door. if you break them, don't worry, they are really inexpensive at the auto parts store.

Trunk wont open. latch does not work from inside

Make sure the drivers door is open and push the button on the drivers door to open trunk. Keep the drivers door open while you open trunk. If you close the drivers door before opening it, it won't open. Well this is what happens to our car. Don't know if it's a fault or the design but this does work for us.

1997 ford exibition xlt my interior light and running board lights wont go off along wiith the door ajar light on dash board. please help

Take some WD40 and open the doors and spray a liberal amount into each of the door latches. Then open and close the doors firmly several times. This will work most of the time to unstick the ajar switches.

Lock/unlock pushbutton is sunk back into the door panel

Above the door handle you have the part you pul the door closed with, if you look to the bottom of it you will see a long piece of plastic, you need to lift this out , under that are two screws, take them out, then look for the little lite located close to the edge of the door, this light will just pop out, behind it you will find another screw, remove it, now look in the round heater hole located towards the top inner part of the door pannel and you will find a little plastic plug, with long nose plyers gently grab it and pull it out.you will have to remove the plastic molding around the handle, just use a flat head screw driver and pop it out
Now all you have to do is grab hold of the whole door panel and lift and wiggle it up, it is held in place by plastic hooks, don't worry to much as they are pretty sterdy, you must becareful not to move the panel to far away at first cause there are plugs you will need to undo, it is all really very simple if you take your time.
All the door panels come off the same way. good luck and have fun, I have had the same broken button and many other things, just today I had all the plastic trim around the floor and roof off and the whole head liner out to repair my sunroof moter.

Window dropped on driver side of my 2002 lincon ls.

Sounds like your window assembly has failed or the cable has broken. An easy repair, once the door panel is removed and the assembly disconnected from door.
