Usually, the only time this type of thing occurs is when the "neutral safety switch" has been tripped. Make sure that the vehicle is completely in the park position. and if it's a manual, make sure that you're pressing in the clutch far enough to disengage it. Aside from that, there isn't much more that could cause a vehicle to do what you're describing. Hope this helps. Have a nice evening!

On just a whim, you might check to make sure that there is a good ground on the battery. If the ground wire is loose, you can still get lights, radio, etc, but when you go to turn the key to engage the starter, it will push too much of a load across the cable and if it is not grounded properly, your car will not start either. Perhaps this can be of use to you also. Check it out and rate accordingly, if it's not too much bother.

Now that I think about it even further, I can give you a 99.5% guarantee that you just have a loose battery cable. Try tightening them up. If you're short ontools, try pushing down on them while slightly turning them back and forth. This should fix your issue.

1 ) Foot on brake, try starting while moving shifter through all gears. 2) wiggle battery connections.
3 Look for 1" square black relays under hood, on fender, firewall are a couple of places, any fuse panels under hood, and see if any clicking. Try tapping with something but not too hard.

Why did my truck quit running while driving? Lights radio etc are fine.

There are many things that could be the problem. The main thing is the transmission. You should go to the nearest auto shop and get it checked out for any problems around that area.

Has been running perfectly fine, drove it home this afternoon, parked on the driveway. went to drive it tonight and it won't start, it won't even turn over.

Year make and model might help a bit. Things to check for are starter, alarm, spark, fuel. Does it make any noise while cranking, does it crank. The more info you supply the better the answer

Drove through a puddle, power steering out and temp gauge on high, battery light on

I've seen it happen many times on the older Caravans, if you hit a really deep puddle, the splash can knock the accessory drive belt off of its pulleys. You can just gently pry the belt back on, consult a service manual for detailed installation directions.

How old is the battery? Clean the connections, charge the battery. Try starting it. Get the battery tested at Autozone or some place like that.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.
