Hello, I have a 1996 ford exlorer Eddie Bauer. The door will UNLOCK with the remote, keypad, drivers & passengers side door lock/unlock switch and the hatch lock/unlock switch. However, the door will not LOCK with the remote, drivers & passengers side door lock/unlock switch, it WILL lock with the hatch lock/unlock switch. Also pressing the lock on the remote will activate the horn to beeb, indicating the signal has been reveiced, but the door will not lock. Your suggestions would be greately appreciated. Thank You,Jay

Re: 96 ford explorer door will not lock with switch
I do have a book on the 1996 but no on me but I have had a problem with it the same, Get in and sit in the drivers set and push lock from the in side and then do the same but this time unlock it and then get out and try to use the remote. if no then try to do the same thing but in the passenger side. lock and then unlock. no then call the ford dealer shop and they have a alarm department that will help you and I know because I had then do a job on one of my other cars and I was charged $20.00 he did it on a side job.

This is because your master switch on the drivers door may have corroded oxidation on the contacts inside the switch and that master switch is the feed for all inside door lock switches your remote and keypad work because those electrical signals go through the driver door module you must clean all contacts on the master switch get them shiny you can use 4/0 steel wool and alcohol and also take the lock switch apart and clean the button contacts inside the switch for this use alcohol and 1000 grit sandpaper glued to a pencil and lightly spin in your fingers to shine the contacts sometimes just an eraser works but it depends on the quality of it so go with the sandpaper glued to the pencil or any circular object that will fit inside after this blow out the switch and use the alcohol to clean out and let dry
I asked a frend about your problem and he said there isnt one, he said when you use the clicker, your moveing away from the car, so you get an audable sound to let you now it's working, when you use the key your at the car and you now whats happening.
