2001 Grand Am SE 4 Cylinder 2.4 L Twin Cam motor wouldn't start. It sounds as if it wants to catch but won't, the Check Engine Soon, Battery & Security Lights were all on. What could be the problem with this car? I can't remember the last time I changed the battery but I know it was within the last year or so.

hello my friend, i had tha same problem like a week ago, i recived 4 different possibilities to fix the car so far. the first one (and i hope this is ur case) i was told it could be the cam sensor, or the crank sensor, but this was not my case.

the second could be that the first spark plug has no spark, not my case either

the third one came to be the fuel pump, to find out, step a couple times on the gas pedal, then open the little valve on the fuel line on the motor, if fuel comes out, then it is not this option

the fourth one (my case but i hope not urs) it came to be that the timing chain broke; this thing is in charge of activating the spark plugs on time, and if it brakes, the plugs dont work at all.

    i hope this helps u .

we bought a 91 accord dx from someone who couldn't get it to start anymore. it wouldn't start for us until we changed the distributor. it then ran for five minutes then died. we changed the ecu, the main relay, distributor again and it still won't start. any ideas?

My husband and I just purchased a 2001 Grand Am for our daughter. We brought it home and the heater was not working. My husband fixed it and the car would not start at all. We did a lot of research online because he is a must do it yourselfer and turns out that under your dash on the passengers side is a box for the security this system is connected to every function of your car. He rigged the connection that went to this box and wala! Anyway all research that we did said that if corrosion builds up or you loose that connection then your car will die even if you are driving 70 mph on the interstate. So in a nutshell does your security light come on when you turn the key. It could be as simple as resetting the system which all you do is turn the key to the on position the security light should flash leave it on for 10 nto 15 min. the light will go off, then turn the key off and then try to start the car that resets your system. Hope it works it was sure a headache for us.

Hey It sounds like your wireing is bad. Go to a mechanic and tell them to check the wiring to the fuel pump. If it is it will take about 7 hours to do and if labor is 50$ a hour it will cost 350 to fix. I just did the wiring to a 2001 pontiac grand am se last week.

you have a bad battery, if it more than three years old it is suspect, measure voltage it should read 12.5v minimum, if not trash it and install a new one. but also it could be as simple as very corrosion on the cables and post, if they look dirty, clean up with a wire brush real good and tighten it down firmly. Batteries are designed that if you lost you alternator and are just running on battery power and the car finnally gives up, if you wait another an hour, it has a reserve capacity that will allow you a couple more miles usually. i was stranded in the desert one time in the middle of nowhere 60 miles from home and used this technique, i had to do it three times before i got home but then that thrashes the battery and you'll have to replace it. Make sure that your belt is not loose and that its charging up the battery as you drive. You can also check this my monitoring your analog gauge to see if its on the plus side, if you don't have this gauge, then just use a voltmeter and check it while running, it should be around 13v, if its charging the battery.
can you rate this. thanks!
