Alarm goes off intermmitantly when the Disco TDI 300, 1997

When I lock the disco the alarm goes off for no reason. Sometime after a few minutes and sometimes after an hour or so. I cannot locate the alarm system in my Hayes Manual. do I have to take it to a dealer?

By deduction I realised that the interior lights where coming on and off ( I assume a faulty delay dimmer). I have disconnected the rear and boot lights and can switch off the front light. This has stopped the alarm going off. If I leave the interior light switch on the centre position, the lights go off after 30 seconds or so but then come on intermittantly which it actually discharged the battery over a weekend when I didn't use the Disco.

Is the dimmer a seperate unit and how do I find it?

    Regards

First check your battery and connections. There are two alarm units , your dealer will be able to read the fault codes and advise you on what to do.I don't think it's wise to expose the security of your vehicle on line.

The interior lights are controlled by the Multi Function Unit situated on the back of the fuse box under your steering column. This gives the light their earth path when the vehicle is unlocked by remote and is responsible for the delay after closing the door. The second earth path is through the door switches.Check if the wires havn't rubbed through to the body or onto another earth somewhere.

My alarm goes off intermittently

Try resetting the alarm, using the instructions given at the link below. I'll also copy the text here.

  1. Insert the ignition/door key in the door lock on the driver's- side door of your Mountaineer.
  2. Turn the key to the lock position.
  3. Turn your key to the unlock position.
  4. Turn your key to the lock position.
  5. Turn your key to the unlock position. Your alarm is now disabled. If your key fob works, you can also press the unlock or alarm-disable button on the fob.
  6. Start the Mountaineer's engine and allow the vehicle to run for at least 10 minutes. This will allow the alarm to relearn the default settings. You must make sure that you have disabled the alarm first, however, before you attempt to start the vehicle, so that the alarm will reset itself.

If these instructions don't work, you can try resetting the car's computer by unplugging the battery for half an hour. However, that will reset the keyless entry code, as you can see in the fixya article I link to at the bottom

Try spraying into the latch with a lubricant like WD-40. Also spray a little into the key hole itself. Don't be shy when you do the latch and move the nozzle around to reach different areas in the latch. Hope this helps.

Disco II Car Alarm goes of in the middle of the night

Could be a problem with the sensor, as their is a few sensors, door(s), hood, depending on he car a few others. One of the sensors could be going bad and is super sensetive or intermitten and even if say a gust of wind hits the wire, it'll go off. Im saying it's a bad sensor.

Alarm going off

My 2001 TD5 discovery has the same problem and this started in the last 18 months.
Normaly the car is parked in a locked garage, and the car is not locked.
The alarm does not go off during the day when parked anywhere even when parked for long periods.

When we are away camping in the bush or caravan parks, if I think of it I remove the "horn fuse" under the bonnet at night and replace this in the morning, if I dont do this the alarm does not go off every night, but I rather do this, than me and everyone at the camp site being woken up at 0300 hr'
Maybe it is the night temperature, ??

I hope this is of some help. John L.L
