Question about 1998 Plymouth Voyager

Runnig normal and suddently engine die

I d change ignition coil but there is not an electrical signal at the ignition coil plug in which electrical sensor is doing wrong.

    driving the m.van through a pile of water shut, won't start again change crank, can, sensor ect ect....

    I can only comment based upon my own experience, so consider this information in light of what your experiencing, but I've seen this same or similar issues over and over in Caravans and Voyagers particularly from 1995 on.



    Since it is usually intermittent, it is very hard to trace or isolate, however in a large percentage of circumstances, this indicates that your fuel pump is not performing properly, may be failing, and needs replacement. Make sure you check the ground connection prior to replacing this item, and if you do replace it, make sure it is of reasonable quality.



    Again, since it is typically an intermittent problem rather than a complete failure, you will often spend many hours analyzing this problem, and many, many dollars on cam sensors, crank sensors, coil packs, control modules etc, only to find out they haven't fixed your particular issue - the van just keeps stalling at speed for no apparent reason, or suddenly dies out of a normal idle, and worse yet maddingly starts and runs OK after sitting for about 20 minutes - sometimes.



    I love it when you are driving 65 one minute then the gas pedal turns to mush while traffic is zipping around you (so you can't get over), or cars are closing in behind you like rockets...whew...scary.



    I don't know how many times I 've been on the side of the road after stalling out a half hour after getting the car back from the shop.



    It is a good idea to evaluate each of the item listed above if its reasonable to do so. This can confirm they aren't the real problem, but if your mechanic is anxious to swap out parts without good justification - watch out! "Troubleshooting" in this way is just saying they don't know what the problem really is any more than you do - and they're making money while you shoveling it out).



    It is confusing for many mechanics also, since, when they check the fuel pressure, everything looks OK. Well, you know what...everything IS going to look OK until the fuel pump blips, but is very unlikley you will be hooked up to any test equipment when it does.



    Make sure to get good feedback on any OBD codes that are being thrown. Many auto parts stores can read these out for you.



    BTW failure codes for this fuel pump issue may only indicate that there was an engine misfire - guess why the engine didn't fire? You got it - no fuel.



    Common fuel pump failure point is the internal valveing.seats. I have read these may be damaged by fuel additives.

What engine does it have ? 1.6 L , 2.0 L , 2.5 L . A crankshaft position sensor , coil pack , I would say that you have an ignition system problem . The only way to know for sure is have it checked .Go on youtube an check out some videos on trouble shooting ignition systems from scanner Danner ,he is a teacher of automotive engine electrical diagnostics . Then go to www.bbbind.com/ for free wiring diagrams an do some voltage tests. The PCM uses reference pulses from the CMP sensor in order to determine engine speed. The PCM cannot operate the ignition system, or the fuel injectors, without the engine speed signal from the CMP.
The ignition coils supply spark to 2 engine cylinders, and spark plugs, at the same time. When the PCM signals the ignition module to interrupt the current flow in the primary coil windings, the electrical field around the primary coil collapses and a high voltage is induced in the secondary coil. The secondary coil voltage travels simultaneously from both coil output terminals, to the spark plugs, and across the gap of each spark plug to the engine block. The CKP sensor signal is used by the PCM for engine misfire detection.

P0353 CHEVROLET Description The ignition system on the vehicle uses individual ignition coils for each cylinder. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls each ignition coil operation. The PCM sends a ON/OFF signal to energize the ignition coil to create a spark at the spark plug when a spark is required at the cylinder.

Possible Causes - Ignition Coil harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Coil circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Ignition Coil 3
- Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

What would cause my car to not send spark to the spark plugs


The first thing is do you know when the last time was that the distributor cap, ignition rotor, and spark plug wires were changed?

There is the possibility that the ignition coil is faulty and first check to see if full battery voltage is getting to the "Pos" (+) positive side of the ignition coil when the key is in the "Run" position, and also that full battery voltage is getting through the "Pos" (+) or positive side of the ignition coil and over to the distributor ignition module, dis-connect the wire connector from the ignition module and if battery voltage is not present at the connector to the ignition module with the key in the "Run" position but it is present at the "Pos" side of the ignition coil, then the ignition coil is faulty. If battery voltage is present then check the ohms between the high tension terminal (where the coil wire goes on the ignition coil) and the "Pos" terminal on the ignition coil by first dis-connecting the wires from the ignition coil and then test with the "Neg" lead from the ohm meter in the high tension terminal on the ignition coil, and the "Pos" lead from the ohm meter to the the "Pos" terminal on the ignition coil, and the ohm reading should be between 6,000 and 30,000 ohms and if not replace the ignition coil. A faulty ignition coil can also damage the ignition module.

The ignition module and the pick-up coil/stator located inside of the distributor is what generates the signal that the ECM (Engine Control Module) uses to time and fire the fuel injectors, as well as the signal to run the fuel pump and the dwell signal timing to fire the ignition coil, and a faulty ignition module can cause any one of these systems to malfunction.

That could be a malfunction with the ignition module inside of the distributor, and you can remove the ignition module and have it tested for free at most auto part stores. If the ignition module does test out alright then the problem could still be in the pick-up coil/stator, (it can be tested using an ohm meter by dis-connecting the wire connector from the pick-up coil/stator and the ohm reading between the two wires from the pick-up coil/stator should be between 500 and 1500 ohm's, and both of the wires from the pick-up coil/stator should show an open loop or an infinite reading between each wire and ground) and if the pick-up coil/stator is found to be faulty then replace the entire distributor, or the distributor will have to be dis-assembled to install a new pick-up coil/stator.

If you do purchase a new ignition module be sure that it does come with a silicone grease or a die-electric compound because it is a heat sink and the ignition module will burn up without it.

To install the new ignition module first clean out the mounting surface inside of the distributor. Then completely coat the metal contact surface under the ignition module with a thick coat the silicone grease or die-electric compound and do not leave any of the metal contact surface of the ignition module un-coated with the silicone grease or die-electric compound, and be very careful not to over-tighten the ignition module or it will be damaged.

My 95 gmc will not atart i changed the fuel tank


If you do have fuel pressure, but there is no fuel getting into the cylinders to run the engine, then the engine does not have an injector signal or pulse to open the fuel injectors.

Truck will turn over but not start. Checked fuel flow up to injectors, all good but injectors were not spraying into throttle body. Changed Coil, wires, battery, fuel filter...even with all the adjustments...

No power to the spark plugs


Check first the wire connections to your ignition unit. Are they properly plugged? If all wires are good, try to measure the voltage from one of the wires to the ignition unit while the ignition key is in "on" position. If there's no voltage, have someone check your ECM. If there's a good voltage reading, try replacing your ignition unit with a good one.
