So WHAT is it if it's not the fuse??? I have the same problem.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2009

Called dealer today telling him wipers worked in brushing off a couple inches of light snow, then stopped working. He said VW/Audi had problems in the past with wiper motors burning out because of ice build-up. They now have safty in place that breaks and saves the motor. Problem is I've been told repair is not covered under warrantee, and will cost about $90. If that's the case, VW needs to figure out how my 1979 Pinto solved this as I never had a problem with that!

I had the same problem. Called a Dealer and was told to check the linkage to ensure that it was not broke. Attempt to move blades, if they move by hand then the linkage is no longer connected and will need to be connected by the dealer (it's buried so deep). If they don't move then the linkage is not the problem. I was not able to move the blades by hand so that indicated that it was not the linkage. I sprayed Deicer all down around the base of the blade arms. An hour later I tried turning on the wipers again and lo-and-behold they started working as normal. Go figure?

SOURCE: what fuse controls front wipers 2008 pt criuser

It should say wipers on the diagram of the fuse box cover either on the outside of cover or underneath it. If you lost the cover then you will need to check every fuse or if it does not say wipers it could run off another feature fuse as well like the lighter or radipo. Is anything else not working like what I mentioned? But if you pull the fuses one at a time with the fuse pulling tool they usually have on the box or a pair of needle nose pliars, and look at the fuse to make sure the wire inside is not melted in two. If it is replace it with the same amp fuse as came out of it. There should be some extra fuses on the fuse box if they have not been used up. Once you have found the bad fuse and replaced it then put the cover back on the fuse box and turn the key to the on position and give them a try, If they work yippy Skippy. If not then back to the fuse box where you left off. Keep checking what fuses you have not checked and look for another bad one. Let me know if this did the trick, Raz

If it is not in the engine compartment on the passenger side just below the windshield it is most likely underneath the passenger side dashboard. If it is underneath the dash there will be a little compartment most likely with two screws holding it on. Look for those things and let us know what you find.

Hi my wipers don't turn on...the spray works on them but nothing from the wipers themselves. it's a 55 plate vw passat 1.9tdi. thanks. dan

first check all fuses, then if thats not the problem. see if there is power to wiper motor. if power then motor is bad. if no power then the switch is bad.

Just bought 2004 passat and winshield wipers dont work

If both wipers are not working, then first of all check your fuses, if fuses are good follow wiper motor wires or look in owner's manual to find the wiper relay. Test relay with ohmmeter to see if it is good or just replace it.
Double check all wiring.
Last possible cause would be the a bad wiper switch which you can also test with an ohmmeter

The fuse is the 20 amp WIPER fuse, located in the fusebox under the driver side of the dash, farthest on the left, 2nd one up from the bottom.
