Sounds like an accelerator cable that is getting stuck in its sheath or linkage under the hood the is sticking. Try pulling up the accelerator pedal when the engine is racing; if it drops down to normal idle, then the above is a good place to start.

I have a 1.8 w reg ford focus. I drive for 6miles then the car loses power every gear chance I put foot down reves go up but car not pivking up speed what could this be

Clutch is slipping. The clutch pedal should have an inch or two of free travel before it starts to disengage. As long as you haven't driven it like that for very long, adjusting the free play should fix it. But if it has gotten hot enough to smoke (which will cause the disk to glaze and/or weaken the pressure plate) the clutch parts (disk, pressure plate and throw-out bearing) will need to be replaced.

The test: after adjusting for adequate free play, drive the car, and while accelerating depress the clutch half way and then immediately take you foot off of it. It should engage immediately and should not slip. If it takes more than a second or two for it to fully engage, the clutch parts are bad.

I have a 2003 mazda rx8 its a manuel anyway il be driving in 5th gear and il put my foot down and the rev needle will shoot up and then drop back down while my speed

Yes it is the clutch slipping, in high gear the greatest load is put on the clutch so that is when they slip the most.

Aver reving after switching to third geer

by the sounds of it the clutch is starting to slip, if more of a load causes it to rev up then that would be the issue.

1999 Honda civic Ex 5 speed

It is possible that your clutch is slipping, causing the engine to rev high. Does it also seem to be lacking power, ie if you put your foot ******* the accelerator does it just rev up and not go any faster? If so, the clutch will need to be replaced. Take it to a garage and get them to road test and report to you if you are unsure.
Hope this helps, Mark

Engine runs on when driving along

Sounds like the choke is sticking on, that would also explain the heavy fuel consumption
