Sounds like you either have a stuck thermostat or a clogged heater core. I would try replacing the thermostat first. If that doesn't solve your problem, there is one more thing you can do before having to worry about potentially replacing the heater core...

On most late model vehicles, the heater controls are vacuum operated. It's possible that one of your vacuum lines has either come loose, or has cracked. Try pulling off the dash cover and accessing the back of your heater controls. Find the vacuum hose that runs the heat dial, and trace that hose until you find your leak. If you don't solve your problem after replacing the thermostat and checking for vacuum leaks, then your problem will most likely lie in the heater core. Sometimes heater cores can be successfully flushed. However, more times that not, you'll have to have it replaced.

Like I said though, start with the thermostat. That's most likely where the problem is.

Hope this helps!

Your heater core may be plugged. find the two hoses for the heater core and use a garden hose to force water through. If it comes out a dark color, that was your problem. Keep forcing water through till it comes out pretty clear.

I have no heat - rad is topped up...blower is working but only cold air is coming out

Feel heater hoses, are they hot? Is cable operating heater control valve. Does coolant look good? And is radiator full? Contaminated coolant can plug up the heater.

There's no heat coming out of the vent, just cold air. What is the possible solution to this problem

possible low anti freeze, air bound heater core, defective heat blend door control servo. Start with coolant level, if o.k. check hoses feeding heater core. If the lines are both hot suspect blend door servo/control unit. If only one hose hot suspect clogged/air bound core. Special bleed procedure for engine. With engine running, check for bleeder scews at upper hose mounting, open bleeder and watch for steady stream of coolant. Be careful as coolant is hot. If this does not help, disconnect hoses frm heater core when cool and blow out core with compressed air to unclog system. I hope this helps.

2002 Pontiac Montana, No Heat, I put the temp control on

the cabel from the heat dial to the heater box behind the dash could be snaped or jamed thus not opperating the lever which operates the flap which open and closes the heat box next to the matrix. or if your coolant is brown in colour it could be your matrix is clogged with sedament and needs flushing out. or it could be your water pump not pumping coolant round your engine or it could be a knackerd thermostat i hope these will help you id start with the easyest first thermostat

2002 dodge 1500 Changed radiator, thermostat, and hoses. No heat

Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.

When the engine is cold,check the coolant level.

Make sure it's on max.

===

A coolant system should be flush every two years.

===

If you did a coolant flush recently then air pocket can be the cause of the un-even heating problem.

The DIY method is to drive you car onto a ramp or a steep hill.

Iet the engine cool off and top off the coolant tank.

Set MAX heat + MAX fan

Let the engine ran for 20 minutes wih the cap off and the trap air will escape from the coolant reserve tank,

Check coolant level and top off coolant when the engine cools down.

A shop will charge $75+ for this but using an air operated excavate tool!

========

A car with over 90K miles may experience linkage problem to the heater control valve.

The heater control valve (near the firewall) may be stick over time.

Open the hood and move the heater to max and min. Back and forth.

Clean and lube the linkage with WD-40 to free the heater control valve.

If it's a vacuum type heater control valve then cash for leaky vac. hoses.

=======
Move the fan switch back and forth to re-new the electrical conductors.

Pass a vacuum over the control panel to prevent dust build up behind the console.

Sounds like a heater core. Check the passenger side floor board. Sometimes when these go out there will be some water on the passenger side floor. Hope this helps some.
