Question about 1992 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Benz 300 Class
MY 1992 MERCEDES 300 TE STARTS WELL BUT KILLS AFTER 2 MINUTES RUNNING IN PARK. IF THE EXCELARATER IS PRESSED WHITE SMOKE COMES FROM THE EXSAUST PIPE. AFTER THE WHITE SMOKE FINISHES, BLACK SMOKE APPEARS. WHEN PRESSURE IS TAKEN OFF GAS PEDAL CAR KILLS. THE STRONG ORDOR OF FUEL IS EASLY SMELLED. SOME SPARKPLUGS ARE WET AND SOME HAVE A BLACK SUT BUILD UP ON THEM. I HAD THE WAGON FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS. IT RAN FINE BUT WANTED TO STALL WHEN I WOULD TAKE OFF FROM A STOP. THEN I WOULD HAVE TO LET OFF THE PEDAL AND REPRESS IT AND IT WOULD TAKE OFF NORMAL. ONE NIGHT IT KILLED AT THE STOP SIGN. AFTER 11 HOURS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, IT FINALLY STARTED. I DROVE IT HOME. IT NEVER RAN RIGHT AGAIN. IT RUNS REAL ROUGH AND SPUTTERS FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES AND KILLS WITH THE SMELL OF UNBURNED GAS IN THE AIR. IT IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE STALLING AND ROUGH IDELING. THE FUEL PUMP AND SPARKPLUGS WAS CHANGED A FEW MONTHS AGO.
The Symptoms tell me it is a head gasket. A leaky or bad head gasket would cause all of the problems that you mentioned.
Burning water causes White Smoke, Burning Oil causes Black Smoke. The oil and water are mixing with the gas in the cylinders and causing it to run bad. Pull out the dipstick and look at the oil on it. Does it look like good oil? Or does it look watery and or foamy or grey colored. Open up the radiator and look inside, do you see oil?
This seems almost text book to me... I would have someone local to you to have a look at it to be sure.
