The slider/switch to the heater/ac on my girlfriend's 95 integra ls was being funky and felt stuck all the time when sliding from cold to hot. last night i shoved it hard into hot and something felt like it finally gave in, making us toasty warm. today the heat doesn't want to work, i'll slide it from cold to hot but its just cold air coming through. how do i go about in removing that portion of the car (the hvac i believe its called, right above the radio) so that i can see what i broke/snapped/dislodged??

Are all the vents working? Does your Cruise Control work (properly) it may work and shut off. If your vents are working is only hot air or cold air coming thru, or just your defroster vent?
You have a 3 way check valve under fuel rail guard on passengers side, its a pastic barrel shape thing it rots and creates holes in it causing your ac vents and cruise control to malfunction.
next your heater control unit if you have the one with a slider to regulate the hot or cold temperature breaks easily inside unit, its only plastic. Its an arm inside unit to control the temp in car it slides a door open or closed for heat. If you look where he slider enters thru that hole space you will see a post it sits on to open and close .
For clarification, it seems that you are getting air blown through the system but there is no temperature change, hot or cold?
Your heater control panel is cable operated with sliding knobs, not like the newer electronic controls with push buttons. It is a "mechanical" set up as opposed to an electrical situation.
Does the slider for the temperature control feel like it has tension and is moving mechanisms in the dash somewhere? If not, the cable, which has an "S" curve on the ends, may have slipped out of the arm either behind the heater control panel or at the AC box where the door is. Also, check the heater control valve on the firewall under the hood to see if the arm on the valve is moving properly when the temperature slider is moved.
When you push the "AC" button, do you hear fans under the hood/AC relays click on/idle drop? If not, you may have a separate AC issue, either very low or no freon. If the freon is just a little low, check the sight glass for the freon to see if you see bubbles when the AC comes on.
The sliding switch on the console is stuck in the cold position and the knob is pulled off. Use pliers to jiggle the switch as best you can. Feel under the center console and you probably will find the cable that is hooked up to the flapper. You'll know because when you jiggle the cold/heater switch at the upper console, the cable will move slightly. At the hookup of the cable to the flapper down under the console (passenger side) try to work the flapper loose to the open (or close) position. At the same time work the sliding switch (with pliers). The flapper will come loose and function properly. Try not to knock of the AC button like I did in the process. It flew off some where under the passenger seat. I'll find it sometime before summer. Ha.
I have a 2001 ford winstar and my heater is not working I slide the ac/heater switch to heat and all it does is let out a thumping sound and blow cold air out and it is starting to get cold in the morning
Spray a good penetrating oil at the base of the plug. I use PB Blaster. Slowly try working the plug loose. I like to start the engine and let run for a minute so the head gets hot and spray the lubricant and while the head is still warm, try to remove the stuck plug. By getting the head warm, it allows the aluminum to expand a little.
