Bmw z3 2.5i CODE p0340

What is it; can I continue to drive my car for a little while without any additional problems occurring; how my to fix it; can I fix it myself?

Great answer!! Thank a lot. The Code was reset when it was read so the service engine soon light went out.....but came back on . The associated problem appears to be vehicle does not want to start on the first (or 2nd, 3rd, 4th) turn of the ignition on occasion. Should I replace the sensor and see if that fixes things? Any recommendation would be great.

The code is for the cam position sensor for the intake cam shaft.
You can clear the code and it may not come back. If it keeps coming back you might want to replace the sensor and double check the connections where it plugs in to the harness. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
Let us know if this helps, Robert

SOURCE: central locking does not work on my BMW 320D SE model

hi

there is a motor placed inside the doors for the operation of the central lockin system. when you open the door by key this motos is activated and all door locks are released. your problem may because of this motor is failed.

cause of the failure
1.the wire going to the motor may be chopped off.
2.the junction box connecting the wires may be damaged.
3.fuse may be blown out.
4.motor itsef damaged.

so please check weather power is coming to the motor using multi meter. if the power is not coming to it then the problem is with the wires. if the power is coming to it then problem is with the motor.

i suggest you to take to BMW because you need to remove the door pannel its better if they do it.

SOURCE: i have a 2000 232

hi this a camshaft position sensor fault, i think the reason for the cut out is because the vehicle cannot tell what position the camshaft is in relation to the pistons, if it all goes out of sync it will cut out to stop damage happening, you will have to replace the sensor, this is located at the top left hand side of the engine/motor you should see it at the front...hope this helps

Neon Code P0344

I believe that the splice for the cam sensor is about 8 inches back in the harness. Power to the cam supplies several sensors. I have fixed a few that the splice was bad, There is very little room to work in to get to the splice, but it's not impossible to fix.

Does the code p0340 have anything to do with the transmission on my 2000 bmw 323i?

DTC P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.

Symptoms can include:
Hard starting or no start
Rough running / misfiring
Loss of engine power

A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
the camshaft position sensor may have failed
the PCM may have failed
there exists an open circuit
the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

Possible Solutions: With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
Diagnose/replace the PCM as required
