Tranny problems on my 96 escort

No it's all done by the ECM/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WHAT IS WRONG IF FLUID IS NOT ROSE PINK OR RED AND IS BROWNISH THERES TROUBLE HERE IF THE TRANNYS SLIPPING YOUR PRETTY MUCH DONE BUT IF IT'S DRIVING BUT NOT SHIFTING THE SWITCHES INSIDE HAVE GONE AND MUST BE CHANGED ALSO IF YOUR CARS RUNNING HOT thats burning your fluid post back with info please

It could be the module, but you should not just start replacing things without a proper diagnosis. You need to scan the computer for error codes, if no codes exist the problem is likely mechanical and you will have to do further tests on the hydraulic s and transmission electronincs. This is beyond the scope of drive way repair and you may be better having it towed to a local shop.

You might need to replace the valve body clip with the upgraded (stronger) one. Ford had problems for a while with the clip breaking and not allowing the tranny to shift into O/D. I had the no O/D problem, I replaced the clip with the upgraded (stronger) one which fixed the problem.

if it warms up and runs ok? then i would say that it needs a tranny flush and new fluid and if dont fix it i would check the transmission control unit and then check the transmission solenoids see if they getting proper voltage and not damaged and you can have them taken to autozone and they can check them <-- i believe/ u can usuas;;y tell iff one not working by its broke or really bad looking hope this helps

Well, first do the service. Pull the pan down and look for metal shavings. If there is metal shavings your in for a transmission. If not, you may have a problem with one of the transmissions shift solenoids located near the valve body.
P.S. The Duramax has the Allison 1000 transmission not the dodge cummins and they are one of the best trannys on the market.

It sure sounds like the trans is slipping, buy your discription of the problem is not very clear to me, so that may not be the case, I would suggest you have the electronic engine and transmission control module tested for fault codes, if a transmission control solenoid is defective it will have a fault code in the memory of the control Module, which we call a PCM, the coil your friend refers to is a solenoid, if nothing shows up for codes I suggest you have a transmission shop drive the car and give you there opinion, they will do this for free in most cases as they want the job if somethiong is wrong.

you'r hoping the tranny's not good? any way, yes it sound like its sliping and slipping badly, if cost is a factor one from a junked unit in good codition should work out fine how ever a rebuilt or exchange unit is even better

sounds like your fifth gear is stripped out. You probably need to have some tranny work done

I would say that physically the transmission may fit due to the engine sizes being the same, but the 96 F150 is a E4OD transmission and the 01 is a 4R70W transmission, they do not work the same electrically.

It does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it recieves from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
