Question about 1998 Ford Escort

1 Answer

New coil pack in 1998 Ford Escort failed in one week?

#2 tower was bad so I replaced coil pack.  All power came back and ran great.  Later that week it started missing again, occasionally.  Now, 2 towers on the new coil pack are out.  Could the resistor or primary wiring from the ECU be causing the problem?

Alright the most likely cause is the spark plug wires. put a set of wires on it and let us now how things are. good luck.

I replaced spark plugs because of a misfire in cylinder 2 and it ran great no issues for two months now a misfire in cylinder 2 again what could be the cause?

Can be a failing coil pack if you can move the coil pack to a different cylinder and then see if the code changes if it moves to the cylinder you moved it to then replace the coil pack should take care of the issue

CAR DOSENT START

there are number of things that lead to such situations.
1. you need to check if your fuel pump is still running or if its power supply is not broken. maybe u only need to replace a broken fuse and u are back on the road, or replace the pump.
2. the power supply to the coil pack/module must be checked too. if u still power on these items and and the car fails to start u must consider replacing them both.
3. also pull out and replace ur fuel filters...check if they are not clogged with dirt...if there is dirt it is likely the injectors are blocked too.

I hope this helps u...good luck

1998 ford escort no spark on #1 and #4

Replace the coil pack. There are four individual coils in it. so anyone of them could be bad without the others being affected.

1999 ford escort I changed the plugs, but broke a plug cap. Bought a generic replacement spark plug wire that had to be modified to fit into the head. I cannot get the firing order correct. The car...

Remove the plugs from the head. Insert into the coil wires. Make sure they are properly earthed on the engine. Crank the motor and check for spark at each of the plugs.
Refer to the diagram. Cylinders are connected as shown on the diagram in blue. 1 goes to cylinder 1(sparkplug furthest from coil pack), 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and 4 to 4(closets to coil pack).
To test the coil pack use a digital volt meter. Measure resistance between coil towers for coil 1(marked 1 in red on diagram) Value should be between 12000 and 14500 ohm. Do the same for coil towers 2.
Measure resistance between I and C1. If the measurement is more than 5 ohm the coil is defective. Do the same for I to C2.
Measuring voltage at I(Ignition start/run) to ground should be 10V.
I is connected to the 15A engine fuse. The radio interference capacitor is connected between this line and earth at the coil. Disconnect it to see if it cures the problem.
C1 and C2 connect to the powertrain control module.
Bear in mind that aftermarket coil wires may cause problems with misfiring, so see if you cant find an OEM coil wire to replace the broken one before replacing anything else.
