2005 Ford ranger fx4 transfer case is banging like chain is jumping, replaced transfer case still bangs. Cvc joints ok, differentials ok, rear shaft ok front shaft seems ok. Shift motor seems ok!

If this is a new vehicle to you someone may have put the wrong gear in one end of the vehicle. Also check tire and rims that must be the same front and rear or the travel per revolution of each axle must be the same. Go to discounttire, com and use their tools to find the circumference of the tires.

What would stop a transmission from shifting ?

On a newer car this is a mode the transmission goes into when there is a bad problem with the transmission. It will usually go into 2nd gear where you can drive it safely to get it checked out but will not shift into any other forward gears.

2003 rear right axle shaft broke would that stop my tranmistion from shifting back and forth?

Having a broken axle shaft will let the diff spin freely, allowing the transmission to spin with no resistance. Resistance/pressure is what causes your transmission to shift. No resistance/pressure means no shifting.

Truck dont mouve

Ok lets start with is your truck a 4x4 or 2wheel drive? if a 4x4 check to see if your 4wd shifter didn't get knocked into neutral and that it is engaged properly in 2wd mode... if it is a pushbutton check that as well..

Does the Shifter Feel normal you feel it engage? if yes then you know shifter linkage is fine problem lies somewhere else..
Next when did this happen while driving did you hear a bang and then nothing?? maybe you Blew out the rear or boke a driveshaft. or Universal joint? this all will be noisy

or maybe you burned the clutch to the point it melted? it will stink badly and seem to linger forever in the air

has it sounded lateley noisier and noisier if so mabe throwout bearing burned up and broke something under the truck

please respond back with more detail and your findings

good luck

Shifting noices

Check your mounts - transmission and differential mounts sound somewhat likely, but I'd bet that your 240, like my 300ZX, has a two-piece driveshaft and that the center bearing has worn out. This happened on my Z. The options were to replace the joint, which I didn't feel was worth the effort, buy a new shaft for about $800 from a dealer (nope), or buy an aftermarket one-piece shaft for $193 shipped (I did this - Powertrain Industries sent it). Take a look at the diff and transmission mounts, but my bet is on the center bearing of the driveshaft.
