Put the car into neutral and then press down the 2 WD button. If this doesn't work shut the car down and try again. Also, don't swithch to 4WD while on the fly ever. This is bad for the transmission regardless of how the feature is sold to the consumer.

YES THERE IS A FUSE. OWNERS MANUAL SHOULD TELL YOU WHAT FUSE *** IS. OR SOMETIMES IT IS JUST FASTER TO TEST THEM ALL. THE SWITCH ON DASH COULD BE PROBLEM. BEST THING TO DO IS HAVE A SHOP SCAN IT. THAT IS THE ONLY WAT TO BE SURE. THANKS MOTOR62500....

Most likely it is not hitting the switch/sensor that indicates that the system is in 4 wheel drive. It is possible that you have a bad led indicator light as well.

I don't know how to get my 2001 kia sportage into four wheel drive

On small shift behinde gear lever there is 3 settings. H4 = 4 wheel drive high range, L4 = 4 wheel drive low range, h2 = 2 wheel drive high range. as soon as jou engage to 4 wheel drive a green light on the dash board will appear to indicate that the car is in 4 wheel drive. if not check fuse - check air pipes at front wheels. Four Wheel Drive switch lights at start up, but does not engage

The four wheel drive indicator light switch/ shift cable housing should be mounted on the front drive axle. The cable actuator vacuum diaphragm, or the switch assembly could be bad. You might want to check those. I hope this helps.
