SOURCE: new altenator

Getting the right parts for VW's can be tricky, sometimes even the dealers can have trouble getting the right part.

take the alternator back, and get more info on you car, such as VIn number, manufacture date . also check if there are any part numbers on the old alternator.

there is usually a build sticker on the driver's side door jam which lists actual manufacture date & where the car was built. german & mexican VW's often have different parts. WV has multple sources for parts, so there can be a variety of parts found in there cars. also parts can change within production years for the cars.

Wiring diagram for altenator in 2005 pt cruiser

I would be checking the external regulator ( if it is not internal in the alternator ) as that will stop a charge for the battery

95 Geo Prism head lights, dash board lights go dim, slows in power, check engine light comes on.

does the alt light glow, keyon (aka. chargelamp)? if not BAD !
fix that FIRST !
This is really simple in most cases.
it's a system, called a charge system.
it has 3 /4 parts.
1: Alternator must spin about 2 times crank speed.
if the engine RPM is 400 , the Alternator will give UP.
so first engine RPM 800 then i strobe the alt pulley, oops belt slips, mine runs at 1.8 ratio or 1400 rpm at alt pulley.
for a DIY is the belt tight?
2: is engine RPM at 800? no , fix that first.
3: RPM good.
The system now is ALT wires and battery. 3 things.
if the ALT is good and the battery is good (tested)
then it must be what. the wires.
The alt can put out 50+ amps..
there are at least 4 wires on most alts and any can fail.
1: big red. (huge charge wire,, or the inline fuse blown.
2: ground, old cars , and for sure in the SALT belt the gound fails
do to RUST, or better word, Corrosion and both.
alum and steel (iron) both corroded, add salt and its worses
in 2 ways corrosion and electrolysis. (google that)
so the ALT case must be grounded to the engine. 100% perfect
then engine ground stap to battery minus. if not the ALT will FAIL.
now we land on 2 more wires, most cars.
that rear connector.
1 is ignition sense wire, if open alt goes nuts.
2: is the idiot lamp. if lamp is bad, (dead) the alt can shut down.
this lamp creates boot up , initial excitation current, so the ALT can start up. most ALTS have no residual magetism to start up.
so it needs a bias circuit, to do that.
and guess what, each brand of ALT uses different parts here.
EVEN REBUILTS, so best practice, is to assume the lamp
must be good, and fix that first (early cars, ) new cars the ECU
runs the alt and is 10x smarter, not this car. at all.

no lie , testing the alt, in car is hard.
many times the ALt just shuts down. (faults)
and with zero current flow, you can not find the voltage drop
that precipitate that fall out/
there is a method but is risky , on car, called "full fielding"
it can blow up electronics,. so that is my warning.
does this help?

one other crazy failure
some cars have DRL , in uSA , some, in canada , many.
i fix them all. but the DRL in many cars, (this year)
connects the alternator, and DRL burns up and kills the ALT.
the reason DRL uses the charge lamp is easy
it shuts down DRL any time the Charge lamp is dead.
allowing more battery volteage (& current) to start, HEADLAMPS off.
same with cruise control some drop out , if change lamp is on.
to understand all this , its all in the manual. (parts effected)

My truck would not crank so i went to the auto store , they said the batteries were good and the altenator was bad.so i replace the altenator, and the battery light started coming on. i just bought the...

not a problem here as its easy to check ,start engine and run at 1500rpm then take the neg battery lead off ,if engine stops then alternator is faulty if engine keeps running then its ok .When replacing a unit like this i always buy a bosch factory exchange unit and not a local rebuild one,As this is the sort of problems you can get unless i renew brushes in one myself but on newer vehicles this is becoming difficult as they dont come apart .I feel more like a unskilled unit changer at times on new cars instead of a motor vehicle technician with 6 yrs at college and 40yrs in the trade .Every new model has less parts i can repair unlike years ago where i repaired water pumps and ball joints ,also cars with rod brakes ?? and points and carbs ??

My uncle gave me his 1996 lincoln continental, it has been religiously maintained up til 3 years ago when he parked it. It had gotten my aunt stranded a couple of times so they just went and bought a new...

The security system has disabled the starter. I had this happen on an earlier model Honda Civic. As a solution, we bypassed the starter and added a push-button switch on the inside of the car. So you'd turn the key to start, hit the button, and it started. We took a bit and drilled a hole in the lower dash for the button to fit, some place easily reach by the driver. From the switch we ran 2 wires, one to the ignotion wire, that we pulled off the starter, and the other to the + side of the battery.

This was the cheapest route. I had attempted to remove the security system, but to no avail.

If you're looking for a professional fix...I'm sorry I don't really have one.

Hope this helps.

I need a diagram for location of spark plug wires for a 94 cutless supreme

Are you trying to route the wires and need to know where the cylinders are. The numbers are on the coil pack. The 3 short wire are for the rear bank and the 3 longer wires are for the front bank. Number 1, 3 and 5 are in the rear with one being closest to the altenator. 2, 4 and 6 in the front with 2 being closest to altenator.
