1994 Saturn SC1 reverse slam on occasion

My 1994 Saturn SC1 will slam into reverse just once in awhile mostly when its cold. After running the car to get it warm, the reverse slam goes away but once in a while the transmission slips on an up shift or when I floor the gas peddle. It then slams up. Most of the time it shifts without a problem. One diagnosis says its a valve regulator (I could not find anything about a valve regulator - maybe they meant a valve body) another says its the computer. The level was low by a quart of trans fluid but after filling it the problem still occurs.

II was just about to purchase a valve body but then took the car in for a computer diagnosis and those results shows that the solenoid/s in the valve body are not showing up as the origination of the reverse slam or hard shift. The error code is a 72 and They ran the tests to completion and say there are electrical shorts within the f2 circuit panels within the PCM To fix the shorts they don't work on that but have to replace the whole PCM and then have to reprogram or flash the new PCM within the car. The bill would be $540 for the new PCM and $105 for the flash. The valve body would have cost me $80 for a used valve body or $326 for a remanufactured one with a guarantee (I would have to do the work myself . But if it is most likely the PCM short - I still do not know what caused the short and if putting a new PCM will really fix the problem as we don't know what is causing the short in the first place. By the way, the short is on circuits for reverse and 2nd gears but then why does it slam when I floor the accelerator down on the highway to get passing - is not that going from 4th to 3rd??

I had a 1994 saturn sl2 that did the same thing what you need to do is change the transmission filter and fluid and you should not have this problem any more if you can afford it go get the transmission flushed.

This can be one of two problems pressure regulater valve worn or pressure control valve inop either way replacing valve body will solve it . there might be one other thing you can do to ensure that the slipping will not happen that is to tighten up your input and output shaft nuts on trans the torque should be 110 ft lbs. if the fluid has a burnt smell to it then the trans needs to be torn apart to the fluid pressure being low caused the clutches to be wear you waited to long to repair if that happened . good luck

What can cause a 98 Saturn SL to slam into reverse

Hi

Check the air mass sensor, clean it with carb cleaner and then refit if you need info on how to do this let me know. the clunk into gear is only because the car is stalling most likely.

Let me know if you need more info?

97 SATURN SC1, WONT GO INTO REVERSE AND GOES VERY SLOW

Transmission is not junk. You need to replace the valve body with a rebuilt one. The cause of reverse not working is because the booster valve cannot create sufficient pressure to get into reverse (reverse requires the most pressure). The booster valve is worn down and the valve body needs to be replaced, rebuilt is the way to go. This is from not changing the fluid and filter every 20,000 -- 30,000 miles to keep gunk from building up and wearing down the valve.

The transmission is fine, don't let anyone talk you into putting another one in, especially for thousands of dollars, NOT THE PROBLEM.

Just need to know how to aline timing markes 1.9l sohc 1994 sc1

"Just need to know how to aline...". What? The best advice that I can give you is to get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle. Anything that will need aligning should be explained in that manual. Good Luck.

When shifting automatic trans in reverse theres a hesitation

I think what you were saying is your reverse slams, and only when you give it gas.
You can try to do the reverse slam fix, which is easy to do:
Reverse slam fix

If it doesn't work, your valve body is probably bad, here is how to swap it, in case you are up for the challenge:

Saturn sc1 starting

check coolant temp sensor located at driver side end of cyl head. remove sensor and check or cracks. also check connector for corrosion. if cracked, go to dealer for replacment. they eill sell you a new designed metal sensor to replace your cracked plastic one. dont buy aftermarket, they will not be accurate. cracked sensor will cause eng. to run rich. may start ok cold but not when hot.
