Question about 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

Irratic idle my 1995 monte carlo ran great until i replaced the thermostat. Now it revs up to as much as 3000 rpms then drops off and dies. I can also smell a strong smell of exhaust as if its getting more fuel than air. I replaced the MAF, IAT sensor checked the engine compartment area for vacuum leaks and found nothing. What's frustrating is that all i did was the thermostat and once finished this problem was here the first time i started the car. It really makes no sense to me.

Did you bleed the air out of the cooling system? They are bad for air locks, Also is the check engine light on? Sounds like maybe a sensor left unplugged

98 monte carlo won't exceed 3000 rpms

Well both of you should look at the MAF sensor. It reads the air volume of the itake and adjusts the fuel accordingly. No air, No fuel, See if that helps

I had a similar problem on a 3.4 Lumina Z34. It was a leaking intake gasket. Be careful with the plastic vaccumn lines as they will get brittle.

ok this sounds easy when you ran the vehicle the computer controled the idiling motor now that you replace the idiling motor the computer hasnt been reset to except the new parameters
once you reset computer this should bring the idle back down to its specified idle
you can also adjust back of gas pedel the idle cable and on the throttle body by the idling screw
