Want to put 1994 chev 305 engine/tranny in 1982 olds cutlass

Doing a father and son project on a 1982 olds cutlass. The body and interior is mint but the original engine is dead. i have a great 1994 chev engine/tranny 305 fuel injected out of my old pick-uo that I want to give my son but am not sure about the change over due to the computer back to mechanical. Does anyone know what we have to change in order to make this application work?

I agree with Michael. But if money is the problem and time is sufficient then by all means play around with the conversion. But you will need a grinder, and a welder. As for your question about computer to mechanical. Yes that will work. I did it with my electronic olds 307 to a mechanical olds 350 rocket in my 81 olds regency. An engine is an engine. You just have to get a use a mechanical distributor and carbureator meaning no computer controls. Mechanical is better for horsepower and torque but not as good with fuel economy. Computer controls are good for fuel economy, but not so much with maximum torque. I think they make special conversion plates for the bell housing bolts to the engine for weird conversions like yours.

I reread my post and it was kind of confusing. Remove the computer ****, and get a non computer carbureator like street performance holley/edelbrock, and get a distributor with springs and weights versus an electronic control unit. Or if you want to save some heartache with the conversion to chevy motor as far getting bolts and holes to line up, I suggest snooping around racing and circle track users. That's where I got my 1972 olds 350 rocket. It was only raced less than 1000 miles after a rebuild. I paid $900 for it. It sat in my garage for year, I installed it, and it started right up, and there was no problems with the bolt holes. For your olds 307 you can install an olds 350 and and olds 400. They all have the same motor mounts, and the same flex plate and bell housing mounting, but have more torque.

First off you have to determine if the original engine in the car is an olds engine or chevy or the buick V6, - if it has the Olds307 the starter will be on the drivers side do not replace it with a Chevy motor the trans wont bolt up and if you try to transplant the chevy trans and engine you are going to run into crossmember problems driveshaft issues and alot of grief - find an Olds Rocket 350 - the older the better - it will save time and money and the Olds 350's put out a hell of alot more horses than a chevy like almost 100 more STOCK!!, a and will take a beating, try to find one pre 1975 but mor common are the 1977 (the last year) - or take the 307 to a macine shop and have it made into a rocket 350 also a cheap route.

Can a Chevy 305 engine bolt in place of a 1985 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme 307 engine?

Yes and no.
Yes it could bolt in place, but it could take a lot of work changing every thing over.
Exhaust, transmission, wiring, cooling, and so on.
Probably nothing except the crossmember would be the same for both engines.

GOOD MORNING! SINCERELY I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR AUTOMOBILE KNOWLEDGE YOU ARE ABLE TO OFFER US! MY 20 y-o Son, ANDREW HAS A YOUNG MAN HE WORKS AT SONIC WITH WHO IS COAXING HIM TO BUY THIS 1993...

For a number of reasons, I'd stay away from it-it is not going to be great on gas, if it currently has no cam sensor, how can you determine if it runs properly? Although 136,000 miles is not a lot for a 93, if it has not been taken care of (oil changes, tuneups, trans maintanence, etc.) it wil just be a money pit. At the very least, the car should be running, and inspected (which would necessitate replacing the missing muffler). Ask that the car be inspected after the muffler and cam sensor are repaired by a mechanic of your choice, that should probably open your son's eyes to the condition of the vehicle, good or bad. I have a lot of experience with cars, and buying a 'beater' or project car is always a gamble, especially if it does not run. A car that does not run is generally worth scrap only, so $550 it too high.

Car makes a loud noise and jerks when I try to put it in a gear.

we might need to know if this is the car's 1st transmission and how many miles are on it --- but tansmissions that make noise and **** when put into gear are transmissions that are low on transmission fluid or have burnt (old) fluid - check your transmission fluid level using the transmission fluid dipstick (its location should be in the car's owners' manual).
If fluid looks dark (significantly darker than new fluid from the bottle), then drain &fill tranny.
If fluid is just low, fill tranny and monitor level for continued leakage.
A word of caution: keep on top of the tranny's fluid level - running on a dry transmission is a really good way to put a 94 Cutlass into the junkyard before its time.
