Question about 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight

1 Answer

Intermidient ''bogging'' Hi, I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale LS, 3.8 not supercharged, and it recently started to bogg...It seems as if it was running on 4 cylinders, so I changed all 3 coil packs. It seemed to have fixed the problem, but it started doing it again shortly after... It was even worse ! Now it stopped again and it is running so smooth !! The check engine light also comes on right before it starts to misfire. It also goes away when it works ok. I was thinking maybe the fuel filter... ? Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction... I really don't know what's wrong with it. I changed all spark plugs and wires on top of the coil packs ! Also, my air conditionner clutch is grinding really bad... Is there a way I can bypass the ac ? I know sometimes you can buy shorter belts but I'm not sure if I can do it on this engine. Please let me know if you can help. :-) Sincerley, Jean

It could be your computer. Find the computer (sometimes behind the glove box) it should be a silver box with lots of wires. do a tap test on it (gently tap it with a screwdriver handle while the engine is running if the misfire comes and goes while tapping it needs to be replaced)

You can buy a tool kit for about $35 that will pull your AC clutch off so you can replace the bearing in it. The bearing is about $25 at Oreilly Auto Here is a sight that shows the procedure.

1994 AND 93 ?

You will probably want to use the computer off the 94 just to make sure everything works properly. Other than that it should work. May have to do work arounds on throttle linkage or maybe some plugs.

Same problem ..hopefully some expert will answer my questions.....My mechanic has spent over 10 hours of troubleshooting my cruise control for a 1995 olds 88 royale ls. Everything (including voltage test...

some cruise controll systems use the center high mount stop lighy [third brake light] as an input for the cruise control if its not working the cruise wont either. all fault diagnosis would conclude that if everything checks ok then the computer is at fault. but i would dought all checks ok. a skilled mechanic should be able to diagnose the problem in 1.5 hours and that is a generous time alotment.10 hours is extreme. so mabee a second diagnosis should be performed
