Question about 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK350 Convertible

1 Answer

Engine whine My CLK 350 makes a whine, or whirring sound, when the engine is running at idle and accelerates as the car does. It sounds like a belt, but the sound seems to come from the engine itself, like maybe a bad injector or something.

Thanks for the response. The car only has 20,000 miles on it, so it is a bit surprising that it has a strange noise at this point.

Could be anything that is attached to the serpentine belt. ie: starter, water pump, A/C compressor, tensioners, steering pump.

My guess is a bad idler pulley bearing (cheapest to replace).

How many miles, what year is vehicle?

2003 Mercury mountaineer high pitch whining sounds like front passengers side- just started today - worse when you accelerate - husband thinks it might be idler pulley bearing??

If it is the idler pulley for the accessory belt, it would make the sound at all times the engine is running, not just under acceleration. I would look to the wheel bearing or the brakes on that corner of the vehicle.

Open the hood. Listen for where the noise is coming from. Fix the thing that is making the noise.

High pitched whine while accelerating

remove the belt and start the engine ..IF THE NOISE disappear it might be idler bearings that driven by belt but if the noise still there check the pcv valve..

I am hearing a noise, like a whirring sound that speeds up with the acceleration and makes no noise when in park. Does this sound like cv joint trouble?

a whirring sound can be a bearing on a component under the hood.(power steering pump, alternator, idler pulley bearing, etc),it can also be a serpentine belt from a worn belt or belt tensioner a cv joint won`t make a whirring sound(it will cause a clunking noise or a vibration).

Whining sound from under van only when i push the gas.

The serpentine belt is the most common cause for whining sound when accelerating, try to understand if noise is coming from serpentine belt.

Also check power steering belt under steering column, and also the rotor and chain, thei do not make whining noise , but can make noise when accelerating.

The belt is first suspect.
