Starter needs to be changed on 2006 monte carlo

When trying to start the car there's a clicking sound, the battery is fully charged, but car won't start....is this a problem with the starter gone bad, and if so, can I put in a new starter myself and where is it located?

It sound to me like the starter solenoid is bad. If you can remove the starter yourself you should be able to repair the problem. You will need to remove the terminal cover from the solenoid(be careful because there are wires connected to the underside of those terminals so do not force it.) If you look at the back of the terminals you will probably see that the inside part of the bolt is burned. loosen the nuts that hold the terminals and rotate them so that the burned sections are to the outside then tighten the nuts back. (not too tight because you can break the plastic) You can test the starter before you put it back in the van (after reassembling the starter itself of course) by connecting a set of jumper cables from the battery to the starter. Negative gets clipped to any good metal tab (usually where the mounting bolts go is a good spot) and the Positive cable goes to the big terminal where you first removed the cable from. touch a screwdriver to the smaller terminal and then touch the screw driver shaft to the + CABLE CLIP (not the terminal because you can damage the threads if it arcs) Be sure to have a good grip on the starter because if it works then it will jump. And keep your fingers out of the hole where the gear (Bendix) is because when you bridge the contacts the Bendix will pop forward and will shred your fingertips.

My 03 monte carlo will not cranck with the swith if i jump start silinoid it will start and shut back off in 2-3 seconds every time i jump start it.

sound like you have a problem with the anti-theft system
if you have the remote, check to see if the battery is good
try to crank your car ( it will not run ) let go the key so all the lights will be on ( make sure your battery is fully charged ).
leave it on for 10 minutes then turn it off.
wait for atleast two second then start it.
if all this do not work, you need to get your car to the dealer.
small shop may not be able to figure it out.

2007 Monte Carlo wouldn't start this morning.

The vehicle is almost new so I wouldn't normally suspect a bad battery due to weather changes. A dome light or spot light might have been forgotten which would drain the battery over night. Check all light switches and you'll know right away if that's what may have drained the battery to cause this clicking sound that is so typical of a dead battery.
Hope this helps

95 monte carlo LS, 3.1L does not start despite new parts

With new Battery and Starter, and still drags -
Check ALL connections and cables for corrosion. That includes the BATTERY to GROUND connection. Make sure the Cables themseleves are not corroded. Sometimes corrosion builds up inside the cable.
