1996 Peugeot 405: Will Mobil ATF D/M automatic transmission fluid work satisfactorily in 1996 Peugeot 405?

I just checked with a Mobil application guide that makes only three suggestions

Automatic Transmission 2.4ltr
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF
Mobil ATF 320
Mobil ATF 220

You could put just about anything in for emergency get you home purposes but only recommended oil should be used if it is to remain in there.
A quart is a lot of oil to lose. I suggest finding the cause is a big priority.

Where's the transmission dip-stick on a manual-shift 1984 Peugeot 505 STI?

There usually isn't one, you have to pull the plug to check the oil, If the tranny has 2 plugs, one is for level and the other for fill, If you suspect it to be low, pull the bottom plug on the right side of the tranny, if oil seep out , it is full, if not, pull the top plug and fill it with 90 weight gear oil, till it seeps out the bottom hole. Then plug them back up. Most manual transmissions go a lifetime and never get checked, or changed. Hope this helps.

Wheres the filler plug on the expert

put the van on full lock to the left, look under the L/H wheel arch in front of the wheel, just in front of the drive shaft you will see a tin cover held on by 13mm headed bolts, on the back row the tin is cut away a little way up is a bigger bolt head (maybe 16mm) that is the fill plug.

Where does the oil go in peugeot 405

if it is a petrol engine you will see a black cap with a hose coming out of it on the fount of the engine it can be very hard to remove so you will have to pull firmly but don't be rough as you don't want to break the filler tube ( there should be a picture of a oil can on it)
