you cant disable it, its a pass key system not a vats system (vats reads a resistance value in the key). The ignition cylinder has a sensor in it that measures a rotating resistance (then translates into a voltage reading) that the bcm reads to let the car know to start. Usually you can try and start the car, then the security light will start flashing - leave the key in the on position for ten minutes until the security light goes out. Then turn the key off, wait, then try and restart - they usually relearn the code after the first 10 minute try. Sometimes it takes three 10 minute cycles.
If the security light keeps flashing, you might as well do a reset.
Be sure to turn off all the accesories including the radio before you start the process.
Insert the key to the ignition switch and turn the key to ON position without starting the car.
leave it ON until the flashing light (security) stops. It will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
As soon the flashing stop, turn the key to OFF
position and start the cart.
Hope this help.
no there is no lock position for the alero. if the key wont turn the key and or ignition cylinder may be worn out. try jiggling the key as you try to turn it. you may need to replace the ignition switch to repair this. when you do it will need to be programed to the vehicle. hope this helps
00 + GM 1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start). Allow the key to return to the on position. (same as if the vehicle would have started) 2. The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes. 3. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns off) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt to start the vehicle. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. 5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start 6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle. 7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles. Try resetting your passlock system by following the instructions above. Thank you for suing fixya and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running again.
Try turning the ignition key on to the run position but do not start it leave it this way for aprox 10 minutes. The security light should do something after this amount of time. For example if it is flashing it will go off or stay on some cars are different then others. What this is doing is relearning the key resistance. If it does not work the first time try it again. It sometimes takes several tries.
