SOURCE: Volvo V70 xc AWD '98 - fuel filter change

Brandonlo168,

The fuel filter can be located under the carpeted cargo storage floor at the rear of the wagon. Remove the four 10mm bolts, remove the cover. You will then see a removeable plate to the right just behind the rear passenger seat. Fuel filter can be seen through hole in hole. Replaced from underneath wagon. Be sure to make sure lines are fully inserted onto filter. Check for leaks. No smoking, extinguisher handy. Note arrow on filter for correct fuel flow.

SOURCE: Hi,

The air filter is in a black plastic holder with 4 latches attached to a big black corrugated plastic pipe with a funny looking silver box attached to it. Unsnap the latches, lift off the top cover, and remove the air filter cartridge. Hold the cartridge up to sunlight---can you see the sun through it? If not--replace it (bring the thing with you to the car parts store to get the right replacement. Hope that helps you. Replace in reverse procedure. :)

Where is the fuel filter on a 2005 volvo s40

There is no external fuel filter for this car. It is actually a fuel pump and filter assembly located in the top of the fuel tank. The genuine part number for the complete assembly is 30792725. It will also need the O'ring that sits below the assembly part number 8638939. This is straight from the Volvo Vida information... Hope This Helps.

My volvo v70 has failed the french mot test due to high emissions ; the cat con is only 2 years old ; what is the best way to approach this prob

CHANGE THE OIL TO TOP QUALITY OIL THEN CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS TO BETTER SPARK MOST PROBABLY IRIDIUM THEN CHANGE THE AIR FILTER TO A BMG AIR FILTER (THIS AIR FILTER DOESNT EVER NEED CHANGING) THEN FILL THE PETROL (IF IT NOT DIESEL) WITH HIGH OCTANE (98ron) AND ADD RACING OCTANE BOOST TO THE PETROL TANK AND THAT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND YOUR CAR WILL GO A HELL OF ALOT BETTER YOULL SAVE ON FUEL ALSO THE IRIDIUM SPARK PLUGS DONT HAVE TO BE CHANGED FOR AT LEAST 100.000KLM HOPFULLY THE PETROL AND MORE AIR GOING IN WILL HELP

Servicing a C70 Conv, 2000.

The plugs are underneath the black cover that says Volvo just behind your oil filler cap. It is held in place by 8 #30 Torx screws.

The petrol filter is underneath the car, just forward of the rear tire on the passengers side on the left hand drive models, and the right drivers side of the right hand drive model.

1994 Volvo 960 engine cuts off at high speeds

It sounds like a fuel problem as opposed to an electrical fault. Start with the easiest fixes first ..
The next time the car comes to a grinding halt quickly remove the petrol filler cap and listen for air rushing into the tank. If you can hear air rushing into the tank that means a vacuum has been created inside it.

There are 2 causes of a vacuum inside the petrol tank. One is that the air-valve in the filler cap is blocked (there's usually holes in the filler cap covered by a rubber type ring) and the other is that the breather tube from the tank to atmosphere becomes blocked with dirt and debris thrown up by the roadwheels. Try driving the car with the fuel cap removed or very loose so that air can easily enter the tank. If the car still comes to a halt with the same symptoms, then there isn't a vacuum being caused within the tank.

A failing fuel pump can cause the same problems. I once owned a VW that had the symptoms you describe. The in-tank fuel pump was 'on its last legs' and when replaced the car was perfect.

A blocked fuel filter can also cause the same problems.

Here in the UK the Volvo 960 is either a straight-six 2.5 litre or 3 litre engine. I would guess that Volvos in North America share a pretty much the same mechanical layout depsite model differences. A UK 960 has two fuel pumps. One is located within the fuel tank and is accessed via an inspection plate behind the rear passenger seats (estate/station wagon models). The other fuel pump sits in a bracket underneath the car alongside the fuel filter, just aft of the front passenger seat (driver seat in the US..).

The in-tank fuel pump does most of the work, lifting the fuel out of the tank. The under-car pump lifts the fuel to the engine (it shares the same fuel line). Start with the easiest fixes first - is there a vaccuum in the tank that 'slows'/'holds back' the fuel? Then look at the fuel filter which is supposed to be changed every 40,000 miles.

If it's of any use to you, I've put some photos of the fuel pumps and fuel filter on my own website - www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk Just choose 'Volvo 960' from the drop-down menu.
