1997 Esteem. My everyday driver has 142,000 miles. I was driving and it just quit running. I cannot get it started again. It just turns over. I checked to see if the cams were spinning, they did so I don't beleive it is the timming belt. I checked to see if it was getting a spark and it is NOT. I pulled the plug wire and there was no spark jump when turning the engine over. Does anyone have any expierience with this kind of a problem. I checked the fuse boxes and they all seem ok. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance. AJ

Does it start right back up?if it does does it run another five miles. Does the car seem to be too hot? Is the check engine light on with the engine running? If the lights on get the codes read and follow their lead. over heating is in the five mile range as is the fuel tank not getting air in to let the fuel flow out. The exhaust can be stopped up but if it does restart after quitting it'll runn only a short time before it quits again. Driving the car harder will make it quit sooner as will warmer weather.
Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!
Check the Fuel filter, And Also Check the Fuel Pressure for what your 4 Runner calls for, Not to mention Did you Buy Cheap gas for a Gas station that you Normally Dont use? Might have Watered down gas..
A Stupid But Sometime working Item is to Tap the Fuel Filter a few times with the back of a Screw driver to knock the "Dirt" in the Filter around and see if it start as normal,
If So Replace the Filter, But at 142,000 your about Due for a Fuel Pump..
