I removed the glove box but couldn't find anything that looked like the picture ! I think it must be in a different place on the 1999 model

THIS GUY wrote up a good tutorial. It's for a 2005 model, but yours should be similar.

Hi my problem is that my 1999 grand cherokee over heath i was told that the problem is the cooling fan relay

It could also be the thermostat. If you can't hear/see the fan turn on though it is probably the fan. It should turn on when it gets up to temperature and turn off as the engine cools down. Start it up and watch under the hood to see if it turns on when the temp gets to normal...if it doesn't, whoever told you it was the cooling fan relay was right. The easiest replacement is the relay, if that doesn't work, it's probably the sensor that turns the fan on.

1999 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo a/c electric fan not turning on.I've already replaced the relay, it worked for a very short time then it won't work again, water thermostat also has been change, no help.

There is a resistor mounted by the fan, this could have burned out. Look on passenger side right by fan motor should be 2 screews that have 5-6 wires pluged into it had to replace mine once fan only on high worth looking in too. Also, check if the blower motor Resistor Harness was faulty.

Good luck.

1999 jeep grand cherokee heater fan quit. 40amp fuse under hood good. both wires at motor test hot. motor turns strong when wired direct to battery. now what?

the blower motor resistor is bad replace it and it will work good as new the resistor is located in the same heater box as the blower motor mounted on the outside of the heater box follow the wirring from the blower motor to find it or just simply buy the part and match it up

Heater fan not working. 40amp fuse under hood ok. wires to fan test hot. motor turns strong when hooked directly to battery

"...wires to fan test hot." But what is the voltage? Since the Fuse and Motor is good, and there is voltage (unk strength) to the Motor; this only leaves the Blower Motor Resistor. Does the Fan work on High Only? Then it is definitely the Blower (Fan) Motor Resistor.

Fan on the ac stopped working. Were is the resistor located.

I can't tell you where is the resistor but usually at maximum speed the switch bypass the resistor pack since there is no need of resistor at full speed, so if the fan stop completely, there is a good chance the fan is blown if it is not working at full speed.

Take a voltmeter and test for voltage at the fan connector with the speed fan switch on, you will be able to test all speed and if you do have voltages the fan is just dead.

Check the blower motor under the dash.(on right side put a 12v lead directly to the connection and if it works, the problem may be in the switch relay or resistor pack. (i've also heard of debris holding the fan from moving so if there is power there and motor does not run, remove & check first before buying a new unit.)

You need to replace the switch which turns your fan speed up and down

Fan resistor

I had the same issue on my 1999 Grand Cherokee. I replaced the fan motor which was only 68.00 from Auto Zone and the fan relay sensor which is located behind the front left side of the bumper, which was about 30.00 from Autozone. I would suggest testing the motor with the 12V (fused). You can test it with your car battery, if it works, then i would suggest replacing your fan motor sensor, behind the front left side of the bumper.
