01 WV jetta comunication error when trying to use the obd scaner

I took my car (01 jetta 2.0, manual transmision) to do the emissions test, and the guy told me that his machine couldn't comunicate with the computer or something so it didn't pass. So I took the car to the autozone to get it scanned and make sure that it wasn't his scan machine what is was broken because the car is working just fine, so anyway the autozone guy told me that for some reazon the OBD would turn on so that means hes tools ws getting power but after a few second of serching the scaner would say that it want able to comunicate. so I dont know what the problem could be the car seems to be working fine and there aro no lights on on the dashboard so any advice?????

I do have an aftermarket radio! do you think I have to re-install the stock radio in order for the computer to send data?>

i have the same problem in my 01 Subaru Impreza RS. PA state inspection reported "No Signal was available from the On Board Diagnostic Computer System. This vehicle should produce a signal from the On Board Diagnostic Computer system. This vehicle needs to have the above problem corrected prio to next year's emissions inspection" Not sure what all that means or what i have to do to fix it, but the vehicle did "pass" and i was issued a sticker. I'm not sure i want to go back and ask the dealer where the test was performed. Can anyone familiar with PA emissions testing provide a comment?

I worked on a Jetta with a similar problem of no communication. By chance do you have an aftermarket radio in the car? If so the buss lines that carry the vehicle comunications may not be connected thru the radio. The data lines run thru all the computer modules so they can talk to each other. This could be the problem.

I would try that, you can always change back to your aftermarket after the emissions test.

Unable to do emissions test, just installed new battery 2 days prior

Once the computer looses its memory, the car has to be driven under several different conditions before it has stored the necessary info for the emissions test.
The loop includes city driving, highway driving, and more than one or two stops with the key off. The engine has to be at operating temp too. Usually 50 - 100 miles of each will do it.

Emissions failure due to an evap code

Your emission sensors seem to be just a 'spec' out of normal (I would not call them defective!), but it could also be tainted fuel. Just to pass test I would buy the gas treatment at your local auto parts specifically for emission testing. Ask them at the counter. It will get you passed.
