Did you check the fluid level and color? good place to start can find a tranny installed for around 700$ max on your 93. if it stalled one day, i take it that it wasn't top notch. invest 700$, make sure you get a 90 day warranty and bust balls for any little thing you feel wrong with the new tranny. i did exactly that now my STOCK 93 is running 16.1 on the quarter mile

I take it that this vehicle has an Automatic transmission, if Yes then service it, there is a filter inside right at the bottom and it is blocked because it hasn't been changed for a long time

98 crown vic transmission slipping

Change the filter and fluid. This car if the transmission is original should have a torque converter drain. Drain the torque converter also,it gets almost all the fluid out of the transmission. Doing this the car will require almost 12 quarts of fluid. Worth a shot. I change mine at 25000 mile intervals.

Had a similar problem. Solved it two ways first place key in the 3 position move gear to N then start and it will shift easily. Second solution check brake light fuse, it is probably blown replace it and gears will shift OK.

I have a 1998 ford crown vic police intercepter and the transmission is sticking in first gear and when i let off the gas it shifts. what could be the problem? and oh i already did a trans flush.

thereis a transmission module i believe, and that tells it when to shift. if they didn't have them in that year model, then a vacuum line will also cause that

Sluggish and no pwer up a hill. Almost backfiring in second gear.

Yea probably the bad gas clogged the filter or clogged an already dirty fuel filter. Try changing it. If not I would say try using a lower gear by turning off the overdrive.

Transmission won'y shift into higher gears

It could be a bad vacuum hose or a bad solenoid. Check fluid condition and level first. A Chilton or Haynes repair guide will tell you what you need to know about placement of hoses and solenoid.
