Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Sputtering I was almost out of oil when my car first started sputtering. I thought adding oil would solve this problem but it didn't. The car only sputters when I am driving and not pressing the accelerator. What could this be?

If your car didnt overheat when it was almost out of oil, you are lucky. If it did over heat those pistons and your cylinder might have been damaged. Always check your oil or you will be walking soon. Sounds like the fuel filter could be clogged too or the fuel line. Check your oil at least every 3 or 4th time you put gas in your car.

Fuel injectors should be next on your list of things to check and replace. You might also check your oil to see if it has turned any abnormal color. This will let you know if you have a liquid leak in the engine. When you removed the old spark plugs were any of them wet?

1997. Why has it started sputtering?

The oil is a sign of a problem and the plug may be fouling. A compression test is a start. Generally a squirt of oil will increase compression readings in the bad cylinder during a compression test if an oil ring is at fault. If there is no change with the squirt of oil, it is a valve stem seal or a head gasket problem.

I'm a 43 yr old 2004 PT Cruiser started sputtering when I went to use my a/c and acts like it wants to stall. An hr ago I had my chk engine lite came on and the car was sputtering bad b

It could be moisture yes, could be electrical if the wires and plugs are older they will crack and in humid or rainy weather they would be worse-or when they are cold.

Engine sputters in park and neutral but this problem disappears when the ac is running. Any thoughts?

Check for vacuum leaks. Fill a spray bottle with a few drops of d/w liquid and the rest with water. Start and run the engine. Spray around all vacuum lines and areas to where hoses may be going. If the engine r.p.m. increases, that's where your vacuum leak is. Stay away from electrical.

I put a quart too much oil in my 2001 santa fe. intitally it started sputtering and hesitating with a little smoke, but didn't stall, the check engine light came on, I took it to get an oil change but...

it could have sucked some oil into the air intake and and on the mass airflow sensor. but just one quart shouldnt have caused any adverse effect.

My 2009 ford focus starts sputtering sometimes while idleing or not moving but on. But doesnt turn off randomly by itself. And it started an afternoon after an oil change about a few months ago. whats...

Tire issue is due to improper camber angle, needs to have a front-end alignment done. The sputtering after an oil change could be due to whoever changed it didn't put the proper grade of oil in. Other possibilities could be bad gas, fuel filter however that doesn't make since seeing how it happened after an oil change. So check to make sure oil level is not overfilled, and the filter is inserted correct.
