Question about 1999 Toyota 4Runner
When I start the car, the engine starts idling very slowly, then starts jerking. The car will eventually stabilise but when you engage the gear, jerking starts all over. Sometimes even when it allows you drive, the jerking can start in motion. The CHECK light has remained on for some time. The local dealer here in Owerri, South East Nigeria flushed the injector system and changed the spark plugs but the problem still persits.
Sounds like you have a problem with the spark the coil may be on its way out or there may be oil in the spark plug holls shorting out the spark.
your best bet is to pull the leads out 1 at a time and and look down and check for oil if there is oil there get a new rocker cover gasket.
if no oil refit plug leads loosely and start the car remove one lead at a time slowly and look at the spark cumming out the end off the lead is it blue? if so it is ok if it is yellow and dull you have a coil problem. also check that the spark is only comming out the end of the lead as it may be comming ou the side of the lead and shorting to earth,
you can do this by slowly moving the lead around the top of the sparkl plug holl and see were the spark is comming from
be carfull no to shock your self as it herts like hell

Throttle Body Cleaning on vehicles without electronic throttle control (most 2003 and down)
You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.
