Knock sensors are not worth replacing. Most of the time the knock sensor is just reacting to somthing else causing it to react.

Find how does the engine do when knock sensor is bad on a 2003 kia reo

The knock sensor is generally very reliable and the ones I have tested have been capacitive and I tested them with an old LCR bridge.

The knock sensor is essentially a microphone that will detect knocking or detonation caused by bad fuel or overheating or too much ignition advance and the ECU will retard the timing to protect the engine.

A few early electronic management systems were programmed to periodically advance the timing until detonation was heard by the knock sensor when it would retard until the knocking stopped thus maintaining the maximum pressure on the pistons for the fuel input.

The mechanical safety of the engine is placed at risk if it is run with a bad sensor, though a bad sensor should cause the engine brain to use its pre-programmed values to compensate.

I have a 04' Chev, 6.0L. Engine light came on, fault code came up PO332. I'm afraid the KS's are under the intake. Is there any way to test the KS to see if it is bad, or is there another problem that is...

P0332 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM).

Causes for P0332 DTC:
- Knock sensor circuit short to GND.
- Knock sensor circuit short to PWR.
- Knock sensor circuit open.
- Damaged knock sensor.
- PCM or ECM failure.

Solutions:
- Repair or resecure the harness or connector.
- Replace the knock sensor.

Your best bet is to just replace the knock sensor for sensor 2 bank 2. Call Auto Zone with part number SU1282 this is the OEM replacement.

The knock sensor looks like this:

Need to know how to install knock sensors and where they are need diagram. 2005 expedition 5.4 engine

Hello adamjerkins,

It is somewhat complicated to change the knock sensors. There are two of them and they are located under the intake manifold. The intake manifold must be removed. I would recommend tha you replace both while you have the engine apart.

What leads you to believe the knock sensors are bad, I've seen few bad knock sensors? The knock sensor issues more times than not have been caused by other problems.

After you remove the intake manifold disconnect the knock sensor connectors. Remove the bolts and the two knock sensors then replace with new knock sensors tighten the bolts to 15 foot pounds. Reinstall manifold. The total job for an experienced mechanic with tools is about 5 hours. Not a good job for a beginner.

I failed the emisson's test. I have a 97 Nissan

P0136 indicates a bad O2 sensor. This reports poor emission performance back to the car's PCM (computer)
P0325 indicates a bad "Knock" sensor which would adversely effect drivability as far as performance is concerned. Only way to fix these 2 problems is replacement of the 2 components.
