Hello. I'm having trouble with my airconditioning/heat center. As I was looking for help, I saw your problem with the transmission. I have a 95 Riv with a new transmission and the new transmission shook the car so bad, the dust fell out of the headliner. The old one did the same so the new transmission was a waste of money. While the transmission was shuddering, the lights were flicking on and off etc. Guess what fixedit! The ground strap under the seat is loose. The computer is not getting clear voltage and can't figure out what to do. Clean the area below the ground strap and tighten it and you have free transmission. I found this cure online and have always been gratfull so I thought I would pass it on.

You need a rebuild

No such thing as a good used trans
If they were any good someone would
be driving around with it.

You don't do a transaxle at home

I owned a trans shop and only bought
a used unit if I needed a case.

Bought all my hard parts from a reputable
trans parts supply house that goes over
them and gives you parts that are not
worn or have been repaired

I have a 1989 Ford Ranger with a Mazda Standard Transmission. The Reverse has gone out on the transmission. How difficult to replace this gear would it be or would I do better to find a transmission in a...

Well, to replace a gear in the trans, you need to be able to disassemble the trans. Apart is easier than reassembly. Gears are costly, and when one goes out there is also a mating gear that gets damaged, so that is two big parts. I suggest for the do it yourself guy, consider a wrecking yard trans.
The only down side is you may have to r&r an extra time, if trans is no good..., still worth it.
At our shop, we would often buy the wrecking yard trans and rebuild that, as the big parts add up so fast.

But, just get a used one, and not the cheepest, and get back on the road...for the least money.

1992 Ford Taurus automatic shutters and spins before going into gear. seems worse as the day warms up.

I would guess the car is on at least the second trans or rebuild, since 1992??
Either way I would like you to explain more about how it performs.
Having owned a trans repair shop years ago, most of my work was Taurus and Caravans, with some mixed Foreign vehicles.
That said,I wouldn't be thinking real positive on a quick or cheap fix.
Their easy to rebuild, but the driving public seems to ruin the older Taurus at a rapid rate. Just can not ignore fluid changes on any automatic or drive the way most people do. They won't take the constant aggressive driving behavour

NEVER I REPEAT NEVER USE ADDITIVES they damage before they fix. more than likely it is a transmision computer issue. or linkage. if its the trans again some thing is causing it.

1966 Falcon with C4 Transmission I changed out fluid and filter

Generally, what causes C-4's and C-6's to be slugish going into gear, is the seals on the servo pistons are getting hard. The servo pistons are what apply pressure on the clutch packs, when the seals get hard the oil can blow past the piston and the clutch won't engage. It's worse when the the trany is cold and usualy gets better as the oil gets warm. You could try some transmission conditioner, the cheep stuff works as good as the high dollar stuff. Don't rev the engine to try to get it to go into gear, the clutch is trying to engage and you will burn the clutch up pack. If the clutches were replaced 3k miles ago why didn't they put seals in it at the same time?

How could I rebuild a 1.9L engine trans myself

Special tools are required and I would not recommend the job however if you want to attemp it purchase a transmission repair manual it will give you a list of special snap ring pliers among other tools which must be purchased along with the trans. rebiulding kit from NAPA. be sure when dissassembling the trans. you have a clean large work table in which all the parts can be laid out in the order they came apart for the proper reassembly and cleaning. Automatic transmissions are fairly complicated so be prepared. If its a manual trans. they are not as complex but offer there own set of unique challenges.

How can I rebuild my own transmission for a 99 s10 4 cylinder automatic?

unless you know how a automatic trnasmission works, you should not attempt it. nothing is worse than bringing a trans man a trans in a box.

2000 impala ls trans problem

The problem is a known issue with the 1 to 2 shift at hard throttle. The fix is a repair of the entire 2nd clutch assy. in the transmission. There is a TSB about it released by Chevy. It will need that rebuild for the sudder to go away, or you can try and let off it at shift to stretch more miles out of it.
