You need to get a new transmission control module, i had the same problem when i bought my 92 from the auction, i wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd, so i found a rebuilt unit on the internet and it corrected the problem, you also might want to remove the excess tranny fluid that every one put's in when they have a tranny problem.

Where is the passing gear on a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante

'Passing gear' is a term that means the transmission is down-shifted to a lower gear (e.g., from 5th gear to 4th gear) for improved acceleration to pass another vehicle. There is no physical component called a passing gear in the transmission.
To engage the 'passing gear' with an automatic transmission should require nothing more than pressing the accelerator pedal down firmly. The transmission should downshift automatically to the next lower gear (sometimes it will downshift two gear ratios, depending on your speed and how far you depress the accelerator pedal).

I have a 2001 diamante and it will not shift in to any gears.

Yes...

You are absolutely correct.

The Mitsubishi Diamante has the advanced electronic transmission, which MUST only use "special" Mitsubishi transmission fluid.

Contrary to belief, having excess fluid in your transmission can cause havoc, just as not enough fluid can.

So, it's imperative that the fluid level be checked while engine is warm, in park at idel speed.

As the condition of the fluid is critical, you should change the fluid every 30,000 miles/50,000kms, to avoid costly repairs.

Cheers,

Transmission in 2001 mitsubish diamante

when transmissions are installed, the torque convertor has to be rotated and pushed ih until no more clicks are heard. if that was done it is possible that the electrical connectors to the transmission are not pluged in well, if all of this was done it is possible that the shift solenoids are not working

Atomatic transmission won't only has second gear

Sounds like you have a solonoid out in your transmission. No simple fix for this. You will more than likely have to drop the transmission to replace solonoid.
