Directly below the throttle body on the drivers side of the engine block. Has a white connector attached to a single black wire lead. I had to remove the black plastic piece that connects to the throttle body and the air filter housing, in order to see/get at it. Easy fix once you find it. Haynes manual shows it in a different location, so don't confuse yourself looking at the diagram.

On my 02 Outback Sport it is in front of the airbox on the driver's side, next to the clutch rod assy. It is a cylindrical part about 1.5" in diameter with a bolt in the center holding it to the top of the block.

The knock sensor is located on the top of the engine block almost hidden from view by the intake manifold. It is almost directly below the spot where your throttle cable connects. It will have a bolt running right through the middle of it and a single wire coming out of it.

I need to change the crank position sensor on 2005 Subaru Outback. Is this a do it yourself job? The local Subaru dealer wants $260 for the part and 1 hour labour. Where is it located and where can I find...

the sensor is located by the crankshaft pully and should have a 2 wire plug on it. as far 260 for the part, thats insane considering it's a 25 dollar part. you should be able to do it yourself
