Windshield wipers make loud noise but dont move when turned on

I have a 1999 dodge caravan. when you turn on the windshield wipers you get a loud noise and they don't move. When you get out and push them by hand they will move up and then back down and nothing else. what could be going on?

My 2000 Olds Intrigue (passenger side wiper) is doing the same thing except there was a loud noise prior to it stopping. There was a lot of snow and it would work off and on for a few minutes and than stop. this happened for a day and now it is not working at all.

Probably stripped the little splines where wiper arm attaches to pivot. Flip the cover up where arm attaches to pivot, and tighten nuts on there, but be careful not to go too far, its not hard to snap the pivot stud if you tighten too much. make sure wipers are off, in park position, and move arms to where they should be, then tighten. See if you still get loud noise after. If you do, somethings wrong under cowl, in the linkages or motor. You may be able to see something with flashlight or troublelight.

SOURCE: The windshield wipers are stuck vertically and now

This sounds like the wiper motor has failed. You can pick one up at the local parts store. If not mechnically savvy, I would recommend taking to shop for working in tight areas that these can be. But, otherwise, the motor is on the fire wall, unplug, remove screws(4), exchange with new, and reassemble as removed. I hope this helps.

It sounds as if the wiper linkage has come adrift, normally will require renewal of a link arm

The windshield wiper motor for my 1997 dodge caravan turns on but the arms do not move. how do i fix it?

the wiper arms are pressed on by the nut securing them on the stud. Make sure they are snug. If so the studs are stripped meaning a new wiper transmission is needed

Windshield wipers are hitting each other on a 2000 dodge caravan

Put them in park position at base of windshield where they normally are when turned off, flip cap up at end by pivot, loosen nuts on top slightly, move arm slowly to where it should be normally, and tighten nuts. Careful, not to tighten too much, just real snug.
