I don't mean to be rude, but you should probably get somebody to look at it that knows what they are looking at. Coolant leaks (like all fluid leaks) can be very evasive. I have seen water pump leaks that can drip off of the corner of the engine and make it look at first glance like a hose is leaking. In some cars, the engine is packed so tight into the engine compartment that it can be really hard to tell. I have a bore scope that I use routinely to try and track down these things. Other techs use bright flashlights and inspection mirrors. I have seen head gasket leaks that we had to put dye in the cooling system and use a UV light to find it.

SOURCE: coolant leak on 99 Ford Taurus

I to have the same problem with the coolant leak in my 99 Ford Taurus. We have tried putting coolant in about 3 or 4 times only to have it leak out. The last thing we tried was to have some dye installed to try and find the leak with no success. My leak was not discovered until it was too late. The transmission cooling part of the radiator got a leak. It allowed coolant to get into the transmission. I was pulling away from a stop light and blew the sun gear apart in the tranny. In short, check tranny fluid. If it is milky, change the tranny fluid and get a new radiator before it's too late. Wound up costing me $2000 for a tranny. Good luck.

SOURCE: my 2001 ford taurus is leaking coolant on the

It could be a hose on top of the engine leaking back there. It could also be a freeze plug on the back of the engine. Its a round disk about 2-3" in diameter and is recessed about 3/8" into the block. Check those out and make sure all hoses are good and tight. Any hoses that are kind of puffed out above the clamp should be replaced

I am having a problem with antifreeze smell and leak. I can't see where the leak is coming from but I do see spots on the ground. It does not over heat but it does have a sent of pancake syrup once heated....

LEAK COULD BE COMING FROM RADIATOR.WHEN YOU FIRST START VECHICLE UP IN MORNING LET ENGINE IDLE TO GET UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPEN AND COOLANT PRESSURE BUILD UP. TURN ENGINE.OFF. RAISE HOOD YOU WILL SEE LEAK. THE COOLANT PRESSURE WILL PUSH OUT ANTIFREEZE.LOOK FOR LEAKS AROUND TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK ON SIDES RADIATOR AND LOOK BELOW RADIATOR AREA WHERE COOLANTS FANS LOCATED RADIATOR CORES WILL LEAK AND LOOK AROUND WATER PUMP + BYPASS HOSE + CHECK HEATER HOSES TO HEATER CORE THAT GOES THROUGH BACK LOWER FIRE WALL.

How to change a radiator on a 1996 ford taurus

  1. Step 1 Drive your Ford Taurus up a set of ramps onto a pair of jack stands, if it is a 1996 model or newer. Remove the lower splash shields. For 1986 through 1995 models, you can remove all necessary components from above.
  2. Step 2 Begin by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and draining the radiator into a transportable container. Open the plastic draincock on the lower rear of the radiator and crack the radiator cap.
  3. Step 3 Remove the overflow tube from the coolant recovery bottle and disconnect it from the radiator. On SHO model engines, remove the recovery bottle as well. Next unscrew the shroud and remove it from the retaining clips. Disconnect the wires to the fan motor, and remove the fan assembly and shroud in one piece.
  4. Step 4 Squeeze the hose clamp ends together on the radiator side, and remove the upper and lower hoses. For automatic transaxle models, use either the custom Ford disconnect tool T82L-9500-AH or two crescent wrenches to remove the transmission coolant lines.
  5. Step 5 Disconnect the radiator supports. 1986 through 1992 models will have two upper retaining screws for 3.0 liter and SHO engines. 3.8 liter engines will have two driver's side hex nuts and two passenger side screws. All other models have either the upper screws or the combination of right hand hex nuts and left hand screws.
  6. Step 6 Tilt the radiator backwards toward the engine and lift it out. Fit the new radiator into the support and replace the support screws and nuts. Reattach the hoses and wires in reverse order.
  7. Step 7 Flush the new radiator with either water or a commercial flush treatment. Connect your battery terminals and replace the coolant and let the engine idle for 5 to 10 minutes with the heater on and the radiator cap removed. Top off the coolant as necessary.
Thank you,
Lee

Engine coolant leak

if it is the radiator, look for the leaks, and see if it is the lining, if it is, get a new radiator, they can be from 80 bucks to 200 bucks.. if it is the lining, you are saved and shouldnt be spending much.. you can try to patch the radiator, but you may just bust more seems, i am having the same issue and just replaced my radiator today.

Coolant is leaking out

It's a heater core line. It bolts to the back of the engine and goes into the firewall to the heater core. You have a leak in that hose. Could just be a loose clamp. Don't forget to vote on helpfullness.

Antifreeze leak

check the 2 large hoses that come from the radiator, at the radiator and at the engine. if not there then your losing water into your engine, probably means your head gasket is cracked and about to blow
