1996 mistique heat meter shows overheating but no heat in engine

I have a 1996 mistique and after heating it for 10-15 minutes the heat meter is showing overheating, but when i checked the engine or radiator it is still cool. My mechanic told me the he replaced the head valve cause he thought it might be some air is leaking but it did not fix the problem. And also their is no heat when i turn on the the heater. The car has 108,000 miles already.

Replace the thermostat. top up coolant using is it dura something ford 50% mix and leave the cap open run the car about 2500 while sqeezing the hoses - your assuming there may be an air lock in the waterline and you need to remove it. it wants to go to the highest point. so leave it open and drive around. make sure your over full it will stopn

Overheating when I sit idle.

Over heating the engine is a serious concern. With the hood raised you should hear the motorized fan turn on just behind the radiator as the engine requires additional cooling.. If you look in from the rear of the radiator you should see the fan blades.

This electric powered motor operates on a thermostat and when the engine temperature rises this fan should come on. I'm assuming from your description that when driving and air is flowing through the radiator as the car travels the engine is nor overheating.

Check fan motor thermostat, check fan motor and check wiring.

Heater problems 2009 dodge nitro v6.

Possible, with rad cap off, let vehicle idle until coolant fan comes on then shut vehicle off for 30 minute cool down. Top up rad, install cap and drive and recheck heater operation and any overheating.

1996 Ford Taurus is heating up really quick if driven 5 - 10 minutes over 60 mph

If water pump is old, like over 70,000 miles on it,replace it when you do the fan belt and tensioner.
A new thermostat and a radiator flushing might also be in order. don-ohio (:^)

Only on a long drive the car begins to heat up ! after about 25 miles going 70mph car reaches half on the heat meter ... when there is traffic after about 25miles car get above half and even close to...

You'll probably just have a car that slowly heats up, not a problem at all, as for the overheating, it could be due to low coolant, or check your radiator fan is working to cool the engine down.

Engine temp drops when the a/c or heat is

The engine temp drops because the fan turns on regardless of heat or a/c. During summer of course with warmer weather it will be at a steady temp unless you the gets overheated by radiator or blown head gasket

96 dodge caravan to show its overheating then return to normal

air pockets in the cooling system can cause this problem. idle engine with radiator cap removed for 10 -15 min. Do not let engine overheat and make sure coolant lvl is topped off. this should bleed all air from system.

My 1996 ford windstar temperature gauge shows overheating

Your heater core more than likely needs to be replaced unfortunately. If the engine is heating properly and there are no freeze plugs that have been popped then that is your most likely problem.
