Does your speedo work? If not then is the sensor which is on the gear box top side.

p0443 is emission control system purge valve C fault, p0440 is emission control system malfunction-- fix p0443 and it should be fine. good-day !

finding anything for a kia has been hard i have found recently that chilton now has alot i can only find the online version it at chiltondiy.com they have 30 day and 1 year for one vehicle but im not sure about 97 sportage as far as free i dont think your going to have any luck . i spent $1600 for a #1 wiring harness last year . i gave up on tring to find that short. that was before i looked up the blue book value was $500 in fair condition .wish i would of known that

Per the manual it states: MIL Request Signal from TCM to ECM. Which means there is a signal fault between the Transmission Control Module to the Emission Control Module. If you can, take it to the dealer for repair as they have the parts on hand and are most familiar with their vehicles.

You can go to the dealer and have them help you get the code for the radio, if there going to charge you a crazy amount you can try www.radio-code.com. There cost is cheaper and can help you reprogram the code in your KIA. befor you go through all that, check for the code in the glove box, there might be a sticker in there or in your back pages to your manuel.

cleanup and inspect ground wires kia tried to ground on paint this is the most common problem with the sportage the older ones anyway but i have had instances at the dealership where i have suggested this on sportages for enginelight issue and not only has it fixed it but stuff that hadnt worked for years started working again
