Losing power and dies

I have a 1997 nissan altima, recently my car will completely lose power and dies while I am driving. It will start back up and sometimes drive good for a while. Sometimes not. I dont know if it is relivent but this only seems to happen when I have less then 1/4 tank of gas

my nissan altima was starting up but it would idle as if it wanted to turn off it would sort of sputter and idle close to zero this happened for about 3 days. Then I was driving one day and it cut off, it started back up and i was able to drive for about 2 miles and it cut off again. if and when it did start up if i pressed on the gas it would cut off and eventually it would not start but acts as if it wants to start but doesn't. All the electrical stuff works and there is more than a 1/2 tank of gas and it recently had a tune up.

Sounds as if it may be the fuel pump has unhitched inside the fuel tank. I will explain....The fuel pump is contained in a housing and when all together slides into receiver built into the inside bottom of the fuel tank. 2 ways it can come loose, previous repairs to the pump causing it not to be installed correctly or vehicle being in an accident and the impact causing the pump assembly to slide out of the "holder". When not in correctly, the pump will be just kind of sitting in the fuel with the fuel pump pickup pointing wherever instead of in the correct position facing towards the bottom. This is why (in my opinion) you are experiencing the problem with less than a 1/4 tank. I would recommend checking this first as its the most likely cause. Hope this helps and please rate this.

Hello I have 1998 nissan altima and my question is, what would cause me to lose all electrical power? No dash lights and wont crank.

Sounds like a failed alternator to me. The alt powers everything when running. If failed the battery takes over, then dies leaving no power source and no start. Charge the battery start the car and put a volt meter across the battery. When running it should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If it is reading around 12, your alternator has failed.

Nissan altima 1997 hesitate at stops, wants to die but still runs rpms fluctuate

My best guess is gonna be a vaccum leak... pick up a cheap can of carb cleaner. Start your car and listen for a whistle or something close. it will probly be near or behind the throttle body. take your carb cleaner and spray it with out the little red hose around the back coner on the driver side of the motor. you can visually inspect the area after you hear an increase the idle. if you dont find it there spray all around any where you see a hose. Hope it helps. a vaccum leak usually wont set a check engine light on OBD 1 cars. Good luck.

Car stalls when put in 'drive'

Check your air horn (big rubber boot) to the throttle body. It may have a crack on the underside and when you put it in drive and the engine torques to that side the crack opens and causes it to die.
